Barking at the dog park

Bailey barks at other dogs when she wants them to chase her. No one has really complained to me, but sometimes she can very close to another dog's face. That's when I intervene. I don't want her to accidentally nip the dog or frighten him.

What's weird is that Ellie is a HUGE barker, but at the dog park the only time she barks if some other dogs barks. And the weirder thing is, rarely does another dog bark! It is the quietest dog park you can imagine. Sometimes there are dog fights that break out in the large dog pen (that's another HUGE reason to stay out of there), but we are usually there for hours and it is pretty darn quiet. Weird.

I am also of the mindset that it is a DOG PARK. Dog park = Dog BARK! LOL! Let them have fun! That's why you took 'em there in the first place, right? Some people just don't get it.

this made me think of when i brought my little 3 month old pup to a little sports event. Some children were playing and my pup Bradley was just laying down watching. A toddler decides to come up to Bradley, crouch down in his face and yell "AHHHHH!!!!!!!!" ...just to be a mischievous little boy.... so, of course, Bradley perks up and plays this game back returning a loud "ARRF!!"

of course the little boy goes "Mom. I dont like that doggie... its mean and loud at me"

People just don't have perspective sometimes ;-) you just have to find the humor in life.

Poor Gavin

When my sheltie Blitzen, who has passed, was diagnosed with congestive heart failure the vet told me to limit his barking. I looked at him like yeah right? He obviously understood because he said to me, " I know telling a sheltie not to bark is like telling the sun not to shine." Anyways, I thought that was really cute.

I would just explain to the people that it's just a sheltie thing, and that he means no harm.

That's what I say too! After all, if you were 13" dog (like my little Tully) and had to move a wild flock of sheep over rocks in gale force wind you'd be barking mad too!
