Keep in mind guys, while these type of products can help some dogs, it can also just easily make some dogs barking worse.

Remember, you can't control what your dog associates the negative sound with and you can't control how they react to it.

Some dogs might do what you hope and associate it with their barking trigger and stop barking like Indy did. However, Some dogs might also associate it with their barking trigger, but instead assume the trigger is causing the annoying sound and lash out even more at the trigger or redirect their aggressive. It can make them more aggressive.

Some dogs can also associate the sound with their environment or something else that's around them and not necessarily the barking trigger. So if you use it in your yard and they're really affected by the sound, they can associate it with your yard and become fearful of your yard.

It really all depends on the dog. Just keep this in mind, especially with the sensitive shelties.

That is a riot that Mia does that also. I wonder how many shelties do this on the board, or is it a girl thing.

You are correct. This is not a solution in and and of itself. And it's definitely a work in progress for Indy.

But when I press the button and say his name in a growly voice at the same time, Indy knows that this is behaviour that I'm correcting him from. And now I only need to do the growly voice without the ultrasonic trainer. It's not a lot different from what Michele said earlier. Teaching them that no means no. But getting his attention was the first step. This gets his attention. I think this is what you mean when you say to associate the bad behaviour. Yes?

I'll say again, though....it has zero effect on Bacca. I don't know why. Maybe because of all Bacca's health issues, he also has difficulty processing verbal signals? For sure when I call him, he often doesn't react at all. (Hello, hello! Bacca! Are you there?)

So Indy no longer barks at the printer.

His outside dog chasing, squirrel chasing behaviour is kirbed.

Now when I use the growly Indy voice for any other bad behaviour he is more likely to stop.

Not everytime...so next is the hair dryer and soon the lawn mower at the cottage, etc.

I just bought one of the eggs, they do not work for my sheltie. He is 5 months old and he is a barker. I don't want to get the bark collar because I have the underground fence which I start using next month. I cant take the barking and my hubby works nights and he said it has to stop, any suggestions???

I picked up a couple of ultrasound barking aids over a year and a half ago at some Christmas sale.

I think I got one for $35, and it did help a lot with nuisance barking as I sometimes also work3rd shift. I don't think I've had to use it in the last year or so.

The one I have also can be used hand-held as a training aid with 3-4 different sounds and separare volume level.
Again, haven't really had to use this for a year or more.
Actually, I have used it when I'm sleeping where its cool downstairs. Boots gets up from the master bedroom and runs downstairs. He seems to like it a lot, and licks it, etc.
He's seemed to learn to be quiet when I am sleeping unless someone walks up the drive. I'll have to see if I can get him to stop barking at the door bell, either real or when its on tv.
