Barking while at work

If you are comfortable with having your neighbour see inside your home, you could give him a link to your ustream page. When he hears barking, he'll know for certain it's not Gavin if he sees him snoozing. It would be an easy way to get your neighbour off your back.

Good idea!

oh my!
Gavin apparently trigger on people coming home from work.
I am trying blocking his view outside...hope he doesn't go bonkers tomorrow

He's been VERY good though and you can't expect him to be silent all of the time. If your neighbor is upset because Gavin barks for a few minutes once or twice a week, I personally would tell him to just deal with it and stop complaining. Gavin's barking isn't excessive.

I agree!! I know you wouldn't want to severely damage relations with your neighbour... but I'm sure there are things your neighbour does that you hear from time to time. Uses a blender, cheers for sports on tv, etc... I'm sure you put up with those things. I'm also sure that he can deal with a dog barking for a minute or 2 a couple of times a week. If that's truly how often Gavin barks... I would try to point out to the neighbour that sometimes you hear his noise too!

one side effect of having him on webcam is that I can hear the classical music at work I leave on for him!

And then I can hear him barking (if/when he does).

There really isn't much I can do past what I have done...the blocking the window is pretty much it. I hope it helps. Otherwise my neighbor is stuck with a neighbor dog that barks when people come home at 4-5 PM. But yes, he should expect some barking considering it is a dog building.

I always turn off the sound, I know what their barking sounds like, its enough for me to see it. It IS funny though to hear Ginny howling.

I think at this point you've done everything you can to ensure Gavin doesn't bark. I think you could tape Gavin's mouth shut and your neighbor would still complain (not that you would). If Gavin wants to bark for a few minutes between 4-5pm, let him and let your neighbor deal with it. He's not the only one in the building! If he doesn't like it then he can move to a building that doesn't allow dogs.

I had a flashback to our neighbor we had way back when my first dog Jo was a young dog. She was not a big barker(Lab) but she would bark when people come around the house. The neighbor to our left would complain every time she barked. One night he even called over to the house to complain about her barking and she was inside laying on the floor. :rolleyes2: Um not our dog!

So one night, Jo wanted to go outside late one evening and she starts barking like crazy at the neighbors garage which is just along the property line. Their house is dark and we see flashlights in th garage so my dad calls the police. Seems that a pair burglars were in the garage robbing them and Jo scared them away and the police caught them a block over with a bag of tools and some other items. They had been trying to get into the house but hadn't made it in yet. Pry marks were on the backdoor.

When the neighbors found out. The wife tells her husband to quit complaining about the dog barking, she can bark all she wants. I guess when the dog saves your property are grateful.

Nice. :biggrin2:

I set up the sheltie cam again

A lot has transpired since I started this thread and things with my shelties have been significantly better regarding anxiety and barking.

So I've set up the sheltie cam again so I can spy on them when I'm at work. :smile2:

I'm curious how much barking is going on during the day since there is a lot of construction going on in my neighborhood and the telephone poles are also being replaced. They SEEM pretty relaxed when I get home so I don't think they're getting too upset, but I guess we'll see. :smile2:
