Ok, I've been meaning to ask this question for the longest time... what do Monks have to do with raising dogs?

Somehow this does need seem to jive with traditional church docrtrine?????

I am really enjoying reading the puppy book and will have to look for the I and Dog one. They are amazing at raising a litter.

I'm currently reading a book called The Story of Edgar Sawtelle (fantastic book, about a family and their breeding program - a must read!) Anyway, in the book it talks about an organization called Fortunate Fields in New Jersey who are focussed on breeding exquisitely trained German Shepherds and write books on their expertise. I'm betting this "fictional" organization is based on the Monks!

The dogs are very interesting in the book, and yes, I thought the same thing, "Was the author referring to the Monks at New Skete?"

When I told my son tonight that I was reading this book, he made a similar comment about this being the modern day "Hamlet". (how my 18 year old would know this is beyond me, but he is my literary genius and he is up on what up in the literary world)

I've not seen the parallels yet, but of course it's been 25 or more years since I read Hamlet! And I'm only in the first third of the book.
 
Definately a Hamlet.

And do not google the book because it will ruin it for you. (I am trying not to say too much) I read it last weekend (you know when I was TOTALLY absent from the forum) that was because I was totally absent from reality, I was living on the Sawtelle Farm.
 
Deal, and know you have me totally intrigued! Now I have to race through the rest of the book....
