Beckon Graduates to the Big Bed

I would love to leave Sca out of his carrier at night but the odds of me waking up on the floor with the wood of the bed gone is still pretty high :eek2:
 
Sca is a little younger than Bailey. Bailey 6 months. She was never much of a chewer though. She has been great the past 3 nights. No accidents and not getting into any trouble. She stays on the end of my bed.
 
I've been thinking of trying Ginny in her big girl bed too and after reading about Beckon, thought it might be time.

With Sadie in her bed next to her there was no way that Ginny wanted to be in her own bed. But Sadie is not into cuddling and did not want Ginny sleeping with her. I let Sadie on our bed in hopes that with the lights out, Ginny would settle down into the dog bed. I put her back in her bed several times, listened to her wander around our room and chew things, put her in her bed a few more times, then gave up and put her back into her crate. I'll try again in a few months :lol:

Sca chews his millions of squeek toys, chews rawhides, chews ice, chews his chair until told "not yours", chews the gate until told "not yours", chews his sheep until told "no bite" :eek2: About the only thing that is not on the chew list is his Nylabones :confused2:

Accident wise he is great (now I have cursed myself) and in the morning thinks that he doesn't really need to go out right away when let out of his carrier (when he was younger he would do a hurry and open the door spin)

That just sounds so cute! We never could get Earnhardt to get on the bed.Only occasionally he would get up there.And definately not now,cause he can't get his whole body up in one motion. 96lbs on a bed,somehow does'nt sound comfy.

But I have to say I am looking forward to Trapp snuggling on the bed!

AHHH update from this post.. Trapp has now graduated to the bed.And sleeps very well,snug a bug inbetween us! And he actually sleeps longer in the morning! Hoorray!!:yes:

Hello, my name is Strider and I let my dogs sleep in our bed...

Ok, 'let' is the wrong word.. and 'sleep' doesn't fit completely either.

Darby and Deja are both kennel trained and their kennels are in the bedroom.

we have three kinds of nights at our home..

The 'we're all sleepy' night:

This is usually after a long day of hard play time. Darby is like a sack puppet, draped over mommie's shoulder or cradled in her arms. She slips him between the sheet and the blanket and he drifts off into blissfulness.

Deja, meanwhile is gently laid between mommy and Daddy's pillows, above the blankets where she stretches out and enjoys 15~20 minutes of cuddle time before she gets too warm and gets on the floor to sleep.

The 'We want to play!!' night:

This one starts with a heard of a thousand puppy feet running up and down the stairs from the livingroom to the bedroom and back.. (I did the math.. 2 dogs, 4 feet each = 62.5 trips up or down the stairs, so a slow night!) Darby springing to the bed in playful glee as Mommy and daddy try to catch him to get him to settle down (we fail of course). Deja prancing over to the edge of the bed, herding the pillows, people and Darby (she fails of course) and the race continues! Dawn finally dives through the air catching Darby and doing her best imitation of a runner diving for home plate in the ninth inning of the tybreaker of the world Series..

And they go to their kennels.

And Finally, the 'Anything goes' night:

This is a mix of the two. Sometimes One pup has energy and the other doesn't etc..


Deja will 'visit' the bed but she typically sleeps in her kennel or on the floor. We don't shut her kennel door. We haven't in months. Darby has had to have his shut a couple times when he's in 'Terror' mode but it's rare. He LOVES sleeping under the covers and cuddled up with mommy or me.

Ah, my two know the feeling. DH won't allow pup's on the bed. Miko (the eldest) always slept with me, BEFORE DH came along. So I always tell Miko. I should've kicked hubby to the floor, huh? You can have his side.

Hubby has been letting the dogs sleep with us. But it cracks me up. Miko starts up against me (as he always did). But ends up between hubby's legs. Not sure how. Koji starts between up (he's a tosser, so we worry he'll toss right off the bed) and somehow, ends up on DH's pillow. You notice they end up on HIM!!! Hehehe. I'm a tosser, so they probably want to get far away from me now.

Anyone use stairs? Any recommendations? I worry about Miko. He's now 11.5 and I don't want him jumping off our bed (it's high). And last Tuesday, was the FIRST DAY Koji was able to jump into the truck. He doesn't know how to jump cuz he was never allowed (which didn't help agility, so I blame DH for not allowing him on the bed as a pup).

I love these bed stories. I'm thinking I'll kick hubby out of the bed. I like sleeping with the dogs. They may hog the blankets and bed, but they don't snore.

My best memory of Miko as a puppy (he's always been let on the bed since the first week we got him). Waking up, him against my back, me on the very very tiniest edge of the bed about to fall off. And me saying, "hey, move over, this is a king sized bed" and he gave a small grumble, chuff, rolled onto his back, against me, and let out those big sighs...right before they go back to sleep. the NERVE! lol. he's my baby!

We are actually bidding on a nice set right now on Ebay~ And actually they will not just be used for Trapp,if he chooses to,but I do need something here,when the grand dogs visit.both tea cup chi's. The oldest Lucy,has leg problems,and she uses steps at home.so they will come in handy.

The one's I liked best for our situation were the ones by Premier pets.But they have listings on Ebay.(way cheaper than the retail site).We opted for a two step,instead of 3 or 4 step ones.
