Bela PLAY-BOWED this morning! And BARKED!

Thanks for understanding, everyone! When I told my parents, they were completely underwhelmed.

She didn't do anything more astonishing for the rest of the day, except enthusiastically chew her pig ear. (I felt like celebrating - don't normally feed my girls those, but she picked it out herself.) It took her most of the afternoon, as Gracie kept attempting to steal it, after having eaten her own. (and you *know* how much better something is when somebody else wants it.) But the morning was enough for me!

It may be just my imagination, but Bela seems to have more pep in her step!
 
Yeah! I'm so happy to hear Bela took such a step forward in her 'recovery'. Here's hoping you see more of the happy, waggy, Sheltie she's hiding inside.
 
Awww that is so great! :yes: I am so happy for you and for Bela. That girl has come a long way. Good girl Bela :o!
 
OK, this is no ordinary miracle! She did it again yesterday!

My only fear is that they've started putting drugs in the Pupperoni. But I can see the love & hope in her eyes, and she's showing so much more emotion.

As a heartbreaking aside, I took Gracie alone to the vet to get her rabies vaccination. She is normally not afraid of much of anything and never meets a stranger. She cried & whined the whole time - I've never seen such terror in a dog's eyes. I think she was thinking I was going to leave her there. She spent the entire waiting time practically on top of my head. She was so relieved when we headed out the door, and spent the entire drive home with her head in my lap. What these shelter dogs must go through! Yet, they still have the capacity for great love and happiness.
 
Yey Bela! I think now that you got the snowball rolling she will show more and more joyful signs. She's learning how to be happy and playful it is just wonderful!

Aw and poor Gracie. It brought tears to my eyes to imagine what she may have been thinking when you brought her to the vet. Luckily she will get used to those visits and know that she will return to your home where she will spend the rest of her life with your family.
 
I bring Sca by the vet and groomers once in a while just in and out. That way not every time he goes there he is groomed or poked. You might try that with yours.
 
Our Brie has been becoming more playful lately, and it seems to be linked to an increase in her self confidence. Brie was not a rescue dog so she had no difficult issues to deal with but we are her 5th or 6th home and I think that has kept her quite reserved. I have noticed that her increase in self confidence seems to have started about the time we began taking her more places in the car. I have been wondering if she is feeling more confident because she always comes back home with us.

Maybe it's the same for dogs like Bela and Gracie, not sure if they are coming home again when they go some where like the vets or groomers. We do so much to build their trust in us at home which is so important, but maybe they also build confidence from discovering that they can go other places and still come home with us.

Sorry for the rambling but hearing about how Bela is starting to blossom, and poor Gracie was so stressed made me think of my recent discovery with Brie. Wishing Bela and Gracie much fun and play in their loving home!!
