Bladder problems?

Good news, found a pharmacy that will compound the drugs for Bobby. The Piroxicam is not terribly expensive, thank goodness.

I also found that the ASSA is collecting DNA samples for dogs diagnosed with TSS. I doubt that Bobby's would be helpful though, as his pedigree is unknown ~ he came from Sheltie Rescue. If it were helpful, I would go through the expense of the biopsy and histopathology if it could help save one more sheltie of this terrible disease.

The sheltie speciality dog shows are in town this weekend, I hope I can speak with a local breeders of shelties about this disease.

Looking for the silver linings in this very dark cloud ...

Meanwhile, Bobby is doing all the Bobby things he loves. I just wish I know what causes him pain so I don't ask him to do anything for me that hurts.

I've just read this and want you to know I am adding my postitive thoughts to everyone else's for you and Bobby. :hugs

I haven't been a member very long, but wanted to send my thoughts and prayers to you and Bobby. It's so hard to see a beloved pet go through something like this.

Joan, I'm sorry, I don't know what TSS is? But it sounds like I should especially if it's a problem in Shelties. Can you enlighten me?

Hoping the medications will help Bobby live a good long while.

Sorry, my ipad does auto correct, it s TCC, Transitional Cell Carcinoma.

there are seceral informative sites....just search bladder cancer, TCC dogs, even the ASSA site has pages.

Again, thanks for the support. We start drugs tomorrow when I can observe hm for allergic reactions.

Some dogs have stomach problems with piroxicam, most vets give something for them to take with it. My vet put Louie on Deramaxx instead of the piroxicam, he did well on it, we had him for a few days short of six months after diagnosis. I know of another Sheltie that had it besides Louie and they both were pain free until near the end. It was hard to believe there was something so terrible wrong most of the time. Give Bobby lots of hugs and if you want to talk to someone who has been through this feel free to get in touch with me. You are in my prayers.

tentcamp, thanks. I will be in touch. Today I am in disbelief that anything is wrong with my beautiful boy. Urine flow is greatly restored and he seems every bit the dog he was 14 days ago, energetic and sweet, and my biggest fan.

It seems so cruel to start these meds, which I have not done yet. I still have to fill the script for misoprostal, which will be used to hopefully prevent the stomach upset.

I'll talk to the vet about alternative drugs if he shows any side effects of Piroxicam.

Hugs to you, and I'll surely need them back. Having someone available who has actually been through this is the best news yet.

Regards,
Joan
