Visited vet today. Cameron was found to have dark spots (blood) in his stool. He has lost 4 lbs. Blood work showed his body in not able to take in enough protein. Xrays taken. Nothing seen. Next option an ultra sound to look for growths in his digestive track. He has lost 4 lbs. Now weighs 22 lbs. Also noted in slight loss of hair above eyes. He has been experiencing episodes of loose stools and diarrhea apparently when outside.

Vet has put him on a diet to up his ability to take in more protein. He is also to be given 1/2 a pill, 1/2 hour before eating. That will coat the intestinal track. Vet mentioned possibility of OBI but believe she is more inclined to think lymphoma of some sort.

He does not seem to be in pain. But he doesn't have the energy level he had six months ago.

AM wondering if any of you sheltie owners have had a pet with these issues. He is 11 years old this month.

Any suggestions on how to help him would be very welcome. I haven't yet decided to have sonogram performed. If he does have cancer we would never put him through surgery or chemo. We will know when he comes to the point where he is suffering and we would not let that go on.

Hello Wanda and Cameron, welcome to Sheltie Nation, I am so sorry that we are meeting under these circumstances. I have no experience with the issues you are describing, I just wanted to say hello and say that Cameron and you will be in my thoughts and prayers. :fl :hugs

Wanda, welcome. I am so sorry your Cameron is not well.

Did your vet mention Nutri-Cal to supplement Cameron's diet? It comes in a tube like tooth paste, dogs usually love the flavor, and it is a high calorie supplement with protein, vitamins, etc. that is often used for sick or aging animals who are losing weight and need extra dietary support. Your vet probably has it for sale and it is available at most big pet stores or online.
