Can you vacuum a sheltie?

this is funny, i really did vacume a sheltie. our 2nd dog Aggie was such a gentle soul, she loved to be vacumed she would just lay there and take it like this was the best massage she ever got. (Boy do I miss that dog.)

My grandparents always vacuumed their Cocker Spaniels. They are also huge shedders. I don't think I could ever vacuum my shelties though. I haven't had one past or present that didn't completely freak when the vacuum comes out. It's a great thought though and would save a lot of mess.

When I was single, all the animals used to sleep with me, especially in the winter. So, I used to use the upright vacuum on my sheets, it did a pretty good job. At that time, I always checked out and bought the quietest vacuum I could get, because of my migraines. The shelties weren't afraid to attack the vacuum cleaner.

My husband wanted to keep his vacuum since it is a better brand and has more power. But it is a LOT noisier, so me and Buddy go into the bedroom and close the door, when my husband vacuums.

Somebody else that has migraines might be willing to try it out for you?

Pleeaase show us what happens.

Miles was having the same problem (we're in Sydney) and I was mad with his fur on all of my clothes!

I tried vacumming him with a hand-held but he just attacked the vacumm, thinking it was a tug toy.

I took him to a professional groomer today who was able to trim his under-coat. So even though he's less fluffy now, he's a lot cooler and not shedding hair all over the place.

It's weird....my boys shed some at the cottage but not at home!

I truly do not have clumps of fur or fur bunnies tucked into the corners of my house! When I brush them, sure, the brush has fur in it, but not crazy!

And I know my boys should be starting to blow their coat anytime now, now that fall has arrived with a vengeance (5 degrees C last night).

And my boys are from two different lines entirely so not necessarily heriditary? Could it be the diet?

We have been going through the shedding time. I read where a bath will make them shed more to rid themselves of the old coat. I just sent mine off to the kennel, and I warned them just the other week and now how bad the shedding is. They groom at this kennel, but again, I have never seen the shelties that they do, and they do keep shelties there. I always miss those wagging tails, and shedding coats, while I am gone. Nice to go better to come home and pick my pals up.

As soon as I return its bath time and a trim. I brush but my rake works wonders getting that second coat off.

An outfit is not complete without sheltie hair.

When your dog shows signs of a seasonal shed, ususally 2 times a year, groom them well, and then bath them in warm water.

I agree. Smudge sheds after getting his bath at the vet's office, but that's it. I think that might be worth a try. I was brushing out clumps of sheltie fur, but ever since he's been getting a bath every two weeks he's not been shedding so bad. Of course now his fur is as coarse as straw, so maybe don't use shampoo.

His coat maybe is dry, because of the dips he has been getting. I have seen though that he is doing really well, and the eye looks so much better.
