CGC-How old was your dog?

Pixie was almost two when she took it and got her CGC. As others have said, I think it depends on the dog. And the important thing to remember is that you can always take the test again. Perhaps you can consider this first test training for her and she'll surprise you. Of course, taking a break and waiting a few months isn't bad either.

Suzi was 9 months, Kayla, who is blind, was just over a year. Tessa would not pass if she was tested. Sugar was year and half

Rhiannon, the Terv, was 11 months old. I was at the Belgian picnic, didn't know they were hosting a CGN test (Canine Good Neighbour in Canada) and got talked into taking her through. With absolutely no preparation, she passed. She's 11 years old on Friday and she is one of the sweetest and most obedient dogs I have ever owned.

Callie was probably 6ish- she was 5ish when I got her. She did not pass on the first attempt- she failed on her stay. About 4 months later, we took it again and she passed.

Cran and Dix were maybe a year and a half when they passed. I took them to a show where they were having the test- mostly so we could meet up with another forum member. I did not expect them to pass but thought I would be identifying our problem areas for a future test- but they surprised me and had no major problems.

While all three dogs had basic obedience/manners classes, there weren't any actual CGC classes for us to take.

I'd say if you want to take the first class, go for it but don't feel that you have to do it right away.

I'm sure that Cran would have passed pretty much any time after his first class but now, he'd probably fail the pass the friendly dog part:winkgrin:
