Checkers Gets Her Wings

Rabbit Run Game Face, "Checkers" ~ 12/21/06 - 1/8/24

We said goodbye to our precious Checkers today. She lived an amazing 17 years until age took her vision, hearing, cognition and mobility, and it was time to give her the last gift I could: peace. I will miss her more than words can say. She was the matriarch in our house...my first and best show dog who loved it so much she would show herself. She didn't need me on the other end of the lead.

I was lucky enough to have five bonus years with her despite the odds, after she beat mast cell and spindle cell cancer and gallbladder surgery at ages 11 and 12. Every day has been a blessing. Rest in peace my sweet girl, until we meet again.

Ann, I can hardly picture you without Checkers. We started at Sheltie Nation together, Checkers and Layla. How they years flew.
Dear St. Francis, Checkers has had time now to settle into her new life at Rainbow Bridge. While we know she misses Ann as much as Ann misses her, she was gifted a remarkably long time on earth, and did she ever make the most of it! And please let Checkers know that it will seems but the twinkling of an eye until she and Ann are together again.
In His name we ask, Amen
