Poor little Checkers, she's going through a lot, but she's a tough cookie so no doubt you'll be having trouble keeping her down in a few days.

How is Checkers feeling today, Ann? Thinking of you both. :hugs :fl

Thanks for asking, Sharon. She's much better than yesterday, which was pretty awful. We had to get an increase in her pain med approved yesterday. Now that she's getting a higher dose, she's much better. It didn't help that we had an ice storm yesterday and even my four-legged dogs couldn't stand up in the yard this morning. Two slid all the way across on their stomachs!

We went for her first bandage change today and my vet said both wounds look really good so yay! Still waiting for biopsy results, but so far, it's good news. Thanks to everyone for the good wishes and prayers...they are very much appreciated! :hugs

Sorry to hear she wasn't doing well yesterday...My vets gave me extra pain meds...They really wanted to knock Gavin out so he wouldn't want to do anything.
I hope Checkers continues to improve :)

This morning was snoother than the past two. The medication is making Checkers drink tons of water so at least she's willing to "go" outside quickly. Everything is frozen again today but the temps are supposed to warm up a bit so I'm hoping for some melting.

For anyone who has to go through this at some point, I've experimented with various ways to keep the cast/bandage dry which is a challenge. Huge thanks to Gloria (ghggp) for telling me to get Glad Press and Seal!! I was thinking Saran wrap but this is so much better! For traction, I've added a toddler sock over that with little dimples on the foot so when she walks on the ice her other three feet slip but this one doesn't. The key to the skin graft taking is keeping the leg as immobile as possible at all times, my vet said. Boy is this ever a learning experience!
