Chelsea does NOT want to play?!?

Guess Chelsea is not the Long Ranger!
when I get her food ready to put down in front of her, I tell her sit, she does nicely, I say, "Be a lady" and she will sit perfectly poised while I put her food down, straighten up, etc, etc. She waits until I say Bon Appétit, then she digs in. Ok, this routine has been a twice daily event for months. Recently, at times when I tell her sit, she just looks at me with an expression that means one of two things....."Done that, been there, bored with it" OR... I have no idea what you are talking about???
I have been just telling her over and over until she finally sits, but was wondering why she would just decide at times..."Naw"...

Callie like to show her independence at mealtimes- she knows she has to sit before she gets the food. what she usually actually does is, start barking, then do the sheltie spin and then sit. Both dogs have to wait until I tell them they can have it. She does really well now- before she'd try to eat it as soon as I put the bowl on the floor. Also, if she is young and growing up, she may be testing her boundaries to see what she can get away with. :wink2:

I think Chelsea's only job is to let the neighbors know that we hold exclusive rights to the mowing and weed eating.

I responded to an ad on Craigslist for a playful 2 year old Sheltie yesterday. The lady said she still had her and would call me and set up a time to meet. She said, "Maddie has had a tough time, I would love to see her in a good home" Not sure what "tough time" actually means. The one thing I would really be concerned about is...if she is an excessive barker. We are a nonprofit organization that has a couple cabins for critically ill people to spend time at the lake with their families making forever memories. One of the cabins in basically in our my yard. The Sheltie that was here for a month didn't just bark when someone was in the cabin, if they came outside, she would bark continually!! I mean follow them around bark, bark, bark. For critically ill people, it was nerve wracking!! Well, to be honest, it got on everyone's nerves. Chelsea barks when someone arrives, but then settles down and is fine. I am wondering if Maddie is a barker because I sent her an email expressing this concern and haven't heard back. Wish me luck!

Well I hope you hear back on Maddie soon. Keep in mind that she is young and if she is a barker you can work with her on her barking. Marlie my 2 year old used to bark at the vacuum and the dust buster. Good thing someone thought of a penny can. I used that and everytime that she would start to bark I would shake it and tell her no and she stopped barking at those two things. Anyway, my point is with a good loving home and a good owner, dogs can be trained to do just about anything.

Keeping our fingers and paws crossed for you!

I just talked with Maddie's "mom" and she is supposed to bring her to meet us Thursday evening. She found her a home in Colorado and then they called and said they couldn't keep her because they said that "she had bitten their 2 year old." Trish "her mom" said she did not believe that. She has never even nipped anyone. But she was a bundle of energy and thought she just might have been too much for their 2 year old. Anyway, they drove to CO and picked her up. She sounds totally delightful! ....and spoiled like Chelsea. She is pretty small...only 14 lbs, but Chelsea has played with much smaller dogs and there were no problems. Trish said she is working looooong hours and going to school, and it just was not fair to Maddie. She said Maddie LOVES to play and has lots of toys. She asked me a question that I had to laugh. "What is Chelsea's favorite toy?" My only answer was...my feet!

Callie loves feet too. is it a sheltie thing?? That was the first time that she voluntarily approached me after I adopted her- my feet were hanging over the edge of the bed and she got up and came over and started licking them all over. very cute but too ticklish.

My 5 month old pup LOVES to lick feet and legs. He will actually follow you around and every time you stop he starts licking the back of my legs. I wonder if this is the first part of them learning to herd hehe.

It may be a Sheltie thing! Chelsea does have a feet fetish!

I will show just what a greenhorn Sheltie mom I was with this next statement. Cassie, her mom, being a rescue was more standoffish. When Chelsea was a puppy when we were outdoors she would run behind me and nip at my heels. OK, for the prize greenhorn :cry:remark..... I thought it was SO cute, a Chelsea thing. I didn't realize until later.....helllllllllo, it is a Sheltie thing! I thought she was just being cute....I didn't know she was herding me!
I guess I might as well give it up...she is still "herding" me...she's the boss! :rolleyes2:

I get an extra wash every morning when I come out of the shower. Both my shelties loved to like my legs as soon as I walked out! Yuck! :smile2:

Maddie is here!! Chelsea is now a big "little" sister. Maddie is MUCH smaller than Chelsea but about 3 months older. I will post a picture of her.

Last night was their first night and while her "mom" was here she ran circles around Chelsea and Chelsea joined in!! It was sooooo cute to watch. She is still settling in to her new home and at this point she just walks continually, but she does not seem too upset, but she has not really played since they left. I'm sure it will take some time to adjust to her new home. Chelsea is totally fine with her....just a tiny bit jealous when she stands too close to me.

Need suggestions. like I said, Maddie is very thin and tiny. They said they just leave food out and she nibbles all day. I could just see Chelsea's ears perk up as she thought, "Allllllright....food all day!!" And this morning as usual Chelsea eats her without stopping and then wanted Maddie's. If I leave Maddie's out all day, Chelsea will have that woofed down within 30 minutes~ that is if I watch it for 29 minutes!! :biggrin2:
