Claussen is sick please help!

Update

Thank you for your support and well wishes everyone! I think it did the trick! Even though Claussen was very sick the other night, I felt to sorry for him to make him sleep on the floor or in his crate so I let him sleep with me.

He was fine all day yesterday, ate just fine, even wanted to play. But he did not go #2 all day-for over 24 hours. But FINALLY he went this morning. It wasn't diarrhea but it was a tad soft. He's happy and playful and back to his old self. I think we're going to be okay! :fl

Thanks again for your prayers everyone. Claussen says thank you too!

Isn't is hilarious when we're all hoping for poop and happy when it happens? LOL.

Glad to hear Claussen pooped and seems to be back to his old self. Do you think it was the rawhide? I would keep an eye on him still for the next week, just in case. But it sounds like he's on the road to recovery.

BTW, I love that another forum member has his grandparents. See, it really is like family here.

No way!! You have both his grandparents? How did you end up with both?! That's awesome!!

I am staying away from the rawhides now unless I am able to supervise them 100%. But the whole idea of rawhides was to keep them entertained while being crated while I am at work. Antlers weren't a hit at all-they didn't even give them a lick. But, it's not like they make noise in their crates while I'm gone..I'll just start giving them a few chewable treats instead.

I have Allegiance's mom and dad...their breeder is my cousin. I was looking for a Sheltie and, to my surprise and delight, he offered me one he was planning to retire; of course I jumped at the chance. Then she was lonely and sad, having been taken away from her pack at the age of nearly 7, and we decided she needed company, so I got the other, who was also ready to retire. Their transition from show dogs to spoiled pets has been interesting.

You also try frozen kongs. I freeze canned food in kongs.

I hope Claussen is feeling better.

I totally agree with this. Much, much safer than rawhide.
We buy pressed rawhide bones for our guys. They last longer and normally they can't chew off long or big chunks.
Hoping all is well with Claussen

Thanks to Danny's Mom and Bi blacks! I did buy a pressed rawhide a long time ago and it somehow ended up choking him-he gagged and gagged until he brought up about a 10" long strip of it because he wasn't eating it..just chewing a little and swallowing. No idea how he did that. I still don't know what the problem was-these rawhide chips I've been using are quite small. Either way he was sick for a day, but nothing unusual in his poop.

What a great idea! Thanks! What do you freeze? I am going to try a little sweet potato.

Personally I think that the rawhide treats are over rated. In rescue, I saw some shelties choke, some vomited, had diarrhea etc. I stopped giving rawhides all together.

I am so relieved for you that Claussen is back to normal. Sheesh we have to keep our eyes open all the time.

Freeze some yogurt in ice cube trays or do the Kong. We are gonna do the Kong.

Hugs,
Kate
