Clicker training

Somebody won't stop barking so I am still awake. :rolleyes2: So I uploaded another video. Today's lesson: shake. For some reason every time it takes two tries for him to get it. I don't know why. He decided that kibble wasn't cutting it for him. He gave me the "are you CRAZY?! I'm not taking that as a TREAT" business. :dead: Towards the end I did use cheese and a bit of sausage. I didn't want to go that, but nothing else got his attention. I've got some better treats ordered.

LOL Punkin did the exact same thing when I started training her. She accepted only one piece of kibble as a "treat" before cocking her head and giving me a "really, mom?" kind of expression.

By far the cheapest treats I have found are the ones I prepare myself by boiling and cubing a chicken breast. PLUS, if you boil a few chicken breasts, you can make home made chicken soup with what you don't use as treats. yay!

** quick edit ** I just watched the shake video and I love how you almost sing "cheese" at him at the end. I do the same thing to Punkin exept I call Cheerios "cookies!!" and I warble at her when she does really good.

Awww, what a good boy, Jessica! And on a side note...his face looks fantastic! It looks like his eyes have pretty much healed. Hooray! :biggrin2:

Oh my goodness I laughed so hard at the second video! That was a total, "is this what she means??" kind of move. So cute!

Love the videos. Your babies are all so clever and beautiful! I hope Punkin looks like that one day. :)

I have to mix up the tricks, so he pays attention, lol... Or else he just goes through this routine of paw, left first then right, and speak, then down which is followed by a roll over.. he's thinking ok, one of em WILL give me a treat!!?? Now he will add 'spin' to that repertoire, lol
It's so much more fun then getting frustrated with your dog, needing to manipulate his body or check a chain... Can't wait for my clicker now :)
 
LOL, love the training videos of Toffee and Smudge. Emma gets so excited when I hold a treat up that she will cycle through all of her tricks BEFORE I give a command; like she's saying "this one...this one...did you want this one...ah come on which one gets me the yum-yum!":winkgrin:

You make me sick. :razz: You make it look so easy! It took me 10 minutes before he would even let me touch his paw, because he thought it was a game. I really like the "look" command. Smudge can be playing pretty rough and I'll say LOOK, and he'll instantly drop everything and look at me like he's in a trance. Hehehe.

My ultimate goal is to be able to teach Smudge tricks so that he can perform some for my grandmother. :biggrin2: Every time I take Smudge to visit she asks me if he can stay with her! So I thought it would be neat to teach him some tricks to show her. She has Parkinson's disease and has been having problems with her blood pressure and thyroid lately. So that means they have to give her blood work, which means she can't take her Parkinson's medicine that day. Missing even one dose of her medicine can leave her unable to walk for a week or more. All for a simple blood test!

Also, I swear to you I clean my carpet. I was watching that video and I thought how gross my carpet looked. It can be spotless and all it takes is one trip outside to mess it up again. I think this must be payback for all the times I would make life difficult for my mom when I was a kid!

My mix boy Danny used to do that- everything he knew how to do as soon as he saw the treat. Never waited to find out what he was being asked to do :wink2:

I was thinking SAME thing, lol... this is his puppy rug.. Toffee has it is torn up... etc.. but he doesn't chew it anymore, I think?! lol I was looking at the video thinking... oh boy hope it doesn't show too much dirt, LOL

Oh well, hopefully my next 'training video' doesn't expose laundry on the floor, in the background etc hahahaha
