Colon Cancer

Rats! That's the only thing thats worked for me. Justice would peel everything else away or not take it. Before I found the pill pockets, I had to poke them down his throat and that was a nightmare. :( Hopefully someone else has a good suggestion.

Re feeding...missjennygirl and I attended a great seminar over the weekend on canine reproduction, and one of the topics addressed was feeding pregnant bitches who have lost their appetite. The suggestion was for really strong smelling foods, since dogs can't "taste" like we can, and rely on their sense of smell instead. When desperate, the expert suggested using canned cat food as a temporary measure, or cooking some liver ( :dead: eeuuuw, but whatever works!). I've also had luck with human canned tuna fish for sick pets who won't eat. You can at least mix some supplements and maybe a bit of their own food in with it. It certainly does smell strong! Might be worth a try.

I use plain cottage cheese for Trevor's pills. I just pinch the pill in my fingers & scoop up some cheese onto it & out of the container. I do put the "blob" on his tongue, but he swallows it right away without having force it.
 
Can you crush the pills? I did that with Bacca's antibiotics and mixed into a tbsp of yoguort! Yumm!
 
Two ideas: Peanut butter. Or...dip it in olive oil and shove it down -- fast, easy, and efficient. Eating stays untainted by pills. That's my method with Layla.
 
And if all else fails, pick up some jars of meat baby food, and put the pill in that on a spoon. Guaranteed it will be eaten!
 
I am really happy the chemo is working on Dakota, that is great!!!

OMG pills? I don't care if Lucky had a huge piece of cheesecake, or anything to eat he would pick that pill out of the food, takes me three tries sometimes to get a pill down him. He does the tongue twister thing, and can get it back up.

Lady, here is your heartworm pill, ok mom, down it goes. She is so easy, and Lucky is a pain in the butt.

The only way I could get Kia to take her meds is the trust worthy pill down the throat. All else she detects and spits out.:rolleyes2: Now with Tasha and Jewel when they were with us Peanut Butter worked amazingly. It was feed them a little first so their palate gets a little sticky then give more with pill inside of the blob of peanut Butter. Down it went and it was a riot to watch them licking their chops afterwards.:lol:

That's how I give Smudge his pills. It's so funny! He looks extra special afterwards. Sometimes it gets on his nose, and his tongue flickers out like he is a snake.
