Colon Cancer

Dakota went in today for his 3rd dose of chemo. They had put him on another med with the chemo. That med has made Dakota sick these past few weeks (lost appetite, fatigue, vomiting, sick tummy). We talked to the specialist today who had no doubt in her mind that it was that med making him sick. She took him off those pills for a week and changed it from every day to every other day. The specialist said these meds can even cause ulcers!!!! :uhoh: They did the rectal exam to feel for the tumor. The specialist could not locate the tumor because Dakota is really really raw inside and started straining when they were trying to feel for the tumor. I feel that if they are doing the exam and can't find the tumor....maybe just maybe its gone?!? The specialist told us they did not feel the tumor because Dakota was raw (caused by those meds!!!!). We were also informed that when they gave Dakota his dose of chemo 3 wks ago....they are not 100% sure he took it all. Dakota had apparantly bit the capsule in half and some spilled out (not sure why they did not share this bit of info last time..but that o.k.). They did not want to overdose him last time so they left it alone.
Overall, they were still hopeful and feel that since the 1st dose of chemo worked it is still working...just could not locate/feel it today.
Dakota goes in Wed (taking him and True) to our regular vet. Dakota has to have blood/urine work...and True for her Rabies shot (4 months). Dakota is really worn out this afternoon and has not ate but one bite of his food. We are not pushing him to eat....because we know chemo can take its toll on someone...and the specialist verified today that those pills are making him very sick !!! Please continue to pray for Dakota and our family. We are praying God will heal him!! We have mixed feelings  as to what is going on now...but know its in God's hands!! I want to personally thank each of you for your support and prayers!!!

Update

Hello everyone!!! We took Dakota in for a liver and kidney panel and a B12 shot. The panel showed no change in Dakotas liver or kidney...which is GREAT!! Also, they gave him a B12 shot to increase his appetite some. Dakota acts like he wants to eat...but when he taste it he spits it out??? He ate turkey yesterday and a few other things :) Just keep praying that God will restore Dakotas health and heal him!!! Hope everyone had a blessed Thanksgiving!!

I'm sorry to hear that Dakota's appetite is suffering with the medications. Hopefully you'll find things that will tempt him to eat. Warm chicken broth does a world of good here when we have a finicky eater; either as a substitute for water or poured over a bit of dry food.

Becky, Thanks for the update on Dakota.

He remains in my prayers. St. Francis, we call upon you still to please keep intercedeing on Dakotas' behalf, to the Good Shepard , Our Heavenly Father.
Dakota keep up the good fight we are all praying for you!

When Bacca got finicky with his food, I discovered Merricks Thanksgiving Day Dinner. It's quite runny so when stirred with the kibble it adds great flavour without softening the kibble...it just sort of coats it with gravy and adds little chunks of sweet potatoe and turkey.

Now both the boys get it (spoiled little beasties!)

We're crossing fingers and paws here that Dakota gets well!

My parents scheduled an appt. Tues with the specialist in Charlotte to determine what is going on with Dakota. There is 1 pill they prescribed but really tore his GI tract up. My parents decided first, then the Dr., to take him off of it because he lost his appetite and was really sick. Dakota still is not eating...my dad is feeding him through syringes (still drinking water as normal). We don't know if the cancer has progressed or if the pill gave him ulcers. Our family is really upset and are hoping the problem can be corrected. If the cancer has progressed...down the road we will have to make one tough decision. Please just pray that we receive great news about Dakota. My family loves Dakota very much and really can't bear the thoughts of anything happening to him!! Dakotas really needs prayer!!! Thanks
