Confessions of a rescue sheltie:

Will;111516 We both hope to hear from more forum members today. What would happen if every responsible Sheltie owner adopted one additional "rescue" Sheltie? I bet there would be very few looking for homes. Please everyone said:
Or at least, donate to the rescue groups? I have donated twice to Minnesota Sheltie Rescue, (even tho I'm in California) they do an outstanding job with some really challenging cases - like puppy mill rescues. See Rosie and Abbott on their site for instance.

Or even foster a dog for a rescue group? I have done this locally, and in fact am probably going to get a giant sheltie (a full size Collie) :wink2: next week to take care of.

Thank you for your plea on behalf of all rescue Shelties, Will. Loved Robby's story. :smile2:

Hey Robbie, I liked your story. I am a rescue Sheltie too. I don’t think about my past life, I am just happy that my rescue believed in me and spent lots of money making me healthy so I could come home to my family that I live with and love now. My mom loves me with all her heart and doesn’t mind the little quirks that I have (and there are many). I am a lucky boy and a good one too. I wish more people would give us rescues a chance because we have lots of love to give, most of us know what it is like to not have been loved so when we find it, we have so much more to give. Your friend, Louie

This was a very sweet story!

GREAT point about getting a rescue if you already have a sheltie, our little tri has taken Lucy in as her new big sister and Lucy protects her from everything :)

I hope your story sparks some folks into opening up their homes for a new furry one.

A hearty Sheltie thanks -

Hello All: Robby joins me in thanking all of you who took the time to read his story and especially to all who replied. We both hope that there are many out there who started thinking about adopting a rescue Sheltie and/or volunteering/contributing to your local Sheltie rescue group. If anyone out there was inspired enough by Rob's story to actually do an adoption, we would certainly like to hear about it through this forum. For those of you who may have missed reading Rob's story, it is posted on the Minnesota Sheltie Rescue web site at

www.mnsheltierescue.org

Again our thanks, William & Robby

Thank you Robby for making my heart swell with pride! I can rejoice in your good fortune in finding your forever home. I too am a foster mom to nine shelties and I know how hard it is for some of you to adjust to a new circumstance. Because they can't tell me what happened to them or what their fears are so I have to love them and find out what their specific needs are. It's a labor of love for me and as long as my heath and energy stay with me I will always help shelties in need. Thank you for the lovely tribute to foster families. They are the backbone of the rescue organizations who dedicate their time, energy, love and at times sacrifice their own wants for the good of the foster dogs they are responsible for.

Hugs and lots of sheltie kisses from Mama Judy and the Rescue Squad.

Thank you Robbie for your heartwarming story and David for your posting too. Both made me , especially as I looked at the pictures of those dear shelties wanting homes. Thankfully we don't have too many shelties going through rescue here and of those, most are due to elderly owners passing on or family break ups. Unfortunatly my circumstances at the moment do not mean I have the right situation to devote to a rescue but hopefully in the future I would like to be able to take on an older sheltie as these dogs are harder to find homes for than cute puppies. It is truly heartrending to think of shelties with their sweet natures submitting to the horrors of puppy mills. I sincerly hope those on the web page find their forever homes very soon, they surely deserve to. Keep up with your good work Robbie.
