Confused on the term "speciality"!

Tonight I received a very nice sheltie calendar from Jennifer. In the calendar is listed all of the major ASSA events of the year. I noticed that in April it has listed an ASSA National Speciality. I thought a speciality was just a sheltie only show. I'm confused. Why Nationals and then a National Speciality in Missouri?

The "ASSA National Specialty" is the American Shetland Sheepdog Association National that everyone has been mentioning. In some breeds, there are also Regional Specialties. Our breed just has Club Specialties and the National Specialty. Specialty refers to single breed shows. But then, just to confuse things further, there are Limited Breed Specialties, ie. Toy breeds, Working, Sporting. I hope this helps. Did you get the brown cover calendar done by the sheltie club in Florida? They get thousands of photo submissions each year. It truly is a beautiful nod to the breed.

Yes its the National ASSA Specialty thats held in MI this year, each year the ASSA holds its specialty in a different part of the country, last year was AZ and 2012 is scheduled for FL. Yes I saw where Jennifer gave you the coveted sheltie calendar!!!:biggrin2: That thing is my bible. I put all the dog info in there, heights, weights, breedings..etc

Yeah. It was the mid Florida sheltie calendar. Jennifer told me I could have used the growth chart in the back to see how big Smudge was going to be. :D
