constipation cures?

Yey! It's wonderful when their bowels move the way they are supposed to! (p.s. we really are obsessed with poop here)

Ooh yay! Bowel movement! That's great! Let's hope Deska keeps 'em coming! I was going to ask if there was a blockage in the gut since nothing came out the bottom end but came out the front instead. Maybe check his poop to see if there are any big pieces just in case?

He threw up his dinner last night so I think a blockage could be a possibility - he hasnt pooped again. Darn it, didnt want to go to the vet.

Poor Deska! First he gets a stomach problem from digging and now he's at the oppostite end of the spectrum!

I know - he has got to stop eating scraps from the floor.

Went to the vet and he said it wasn't a blockage but could be an allergy! I have been giving him glucosamine/chondroitin for the last week and the vet said he could be allergic to shellfish. So he is off those tablets and I am switching to a vitamin for joint growth instead. Poor Deska must be sick of the vet's fingers up his bum - but at least we have a solution.

Oh good news, Caro! So glad you have an answer. Maybe you can relax now and poor Deska can have some peace... :wink2:

Shellfish has glucosamine and chondroitin in it? :confused2: I'm not a fan of shellfish at all so I didn't know that. How did the doctor figure that one out?! That it was the shellfish causing it?

I hope that works Caro! I've had to deal with Romeo's weird stomach issues lately and think I've got a couple of new white hairs from stressing over it so much! Hope Deska gets well soon!!

Bailey is having a mixture of both right now. She seems little constipated, but when she does have a bm, its very loose and mucous. Normally she has about 3 or 4 bms a day. The past two days she's had 1 or 2. On Sunday, we went to a sheltie picnic, where she ate a ton of treats and stuff off the floor. I'm hoping thats the cause of her bm issues. I'm gonna give her a little rice now. If it doesn't clear up by tomorrow, I'll have to take her to the vet. She is eating, drinking and playing like she normally does.

One comes from shark cartlidge (I think glucosamine) and the other from shellfish. I know I tried it once and came out in a rash from the shellfish. I hadn't realised dogs could have a shellfish allergy tho! No more prawns for Deska.

He is heaps better. He did a huge poo yesterday and has kept his food down so it looks like the supplement was the problem.

Take4 - Deska was constipated but when he did poo it wasnt hard. It seemed to slow his bowel itself rather than harden the poo. Its worth reducing the glucosamine to get a bit of movement. Tully was pooing bits of onion yesterday - I think she hoovered that up from the ground when we were out on Sunday as I don't give mine onion.
