Cora - Not Sure What to Do

Cora actually learned that really fast sort of. Whenever I say "ah ah ah" she'll turn around to look at me and leave off whatever she's doing. The problem is if we're outside and I have to do it every 2 seconds because she'll go from a wood chip to grass to a twig to a rock. Then she'll get unhappy and jump against the leash in protest after several in a short time frame. I've been trying to only say it once or twice and then just redirect her attention by making her walk with me instead. But she still does it every time we go out :-/

And obviously I'm not with her 100% of the time inside so I'd rather figure out a way to have her not want to eat everything. For some reason, some things she'll figure out quickly not to try to eat (houseplants) but others she'll go after every time (sticks). Funnily enough she's the least interested dog I've ever known to actually fetch sticks :P
 
Sounds identical to Merlin. He was never much of a drinker either, though lately he has improved. Also he would never drink out of a strange bowl, but I've managed to get him passed that for when we are out traveling. I don't think it sounds like you have anything to worry about, though I know that is hard when you have this new little creature in your life. Everyone will tell you the nervous wreck I was the first two weeks I had Merlin home!
 
Oh! Actually I forgot maybe the most important question. How do you guys deal with a hardwood staircase? This is a huge problem because we have a flight of 16 steps or so. Cora, unfortunately, is small enough that she can't reach the next step on the way down without building momentum. But she's too big to take each step individually very easily. When we're outside any time she encounters 4 steps she'll take the first 2 down and jump the rest (on grass, so not too bad). Obviously though, she won't be jumping 14 steps :P Is there a solution which doesn't involve a permanent alteration or doesn't come off as tacky (let's just say I'll get fricasseed if I make the stairs look ugly)?
 
Just something to consider if you are trying to teach her to fetch sticks. My neighbor was throwing sticks for her dog to fetch at the park when Henry her lab went to catch it it jammed in the roof of his mouth towards the back of his throat and went in quite far. He needed surgery after. I have never thrown a stick since. It was really frightening.:eek2:
 
Yikes, I'll be careful then :-/ The sticks I throw are pretty small (because Cora's tiny, 7 pounds at 17 weeks) but you never know. And hehe yeah that's pretty much me too labgirl. At some points I feel like I'm trying to reinforce too much almost, but the effort will be worth it! Hopefully :)
 
Egh another question, when we were out on our walk just now a big dog (not sure what kind) lunged at Cora and knocked her on her back. The entire walk after she was hyperactive (walking in front repeatedly, etc etc). And when we came back in she started barking at me despite never barking before. Is this something I should be worried about? I don't think I'm ever letting a dog who pulls ahead on their lead near her again. Even if I'm between them Cora tends to run slightly away and then the other dog chases. Usually other owners at least prevent them from going after her but he must have been drowsy or something.
