Corneal dystrophy

Hi, I'm an old member who hasn't been around in a long time. My Sheltie, Saidy, will be 6 in a couple of months and has just developed a cloudy spot at the center of one eye. A short google search came up with a common genetic disorder in shelties called corneal dystrophy. Currently my vet is moving to a new space and won't be open until Dec. I plan on taking her in then as it doesn't seem to be causing her any pain or irritation so I don't feel that it is an emergency at this point. The spot right now is hard too see, it took my husband some time and a lot of moving around to find when i tried to show him but you can see it clearly in the right light.

I am nervouse about the chance of ulcers and what kind of treatment she'll need over time and would really appreciate hearing others experiences with this condition.

I wouldn't wait until December. May or may not be corneal dystrophy. Saidy might need treatment right now. Maybe your vet could refer you to someone else until his office is open. Prayers for healing.

Don't wait

My sheltie also has corneal dystrophy. He was referred to a dog eye specialist, who told me it was genetic also. She also indicated that while the condition usually isn't painful, but for some reason in Shelties it tends to be. So take your dog into a specialist ASAP.
