Mr. Deacon is 25 weeks today; guess I need to start counting in months! He will be 6 months old in 6 days! Wow, time flies!!!
Potty training - pretty good; knock on wood!. He definitely knows what he wants and when. He comes and barks at me when he needs to go, has started to bark at hubby and even barked at our oldest while he's been home this weekend.
Training classes - going pretty good. He has heel and sit really good, Working on a distracted recall; he does well with it inside, needs a lot of work outside. Down, he is NOT a fan. Out of the 12 pups in our puppy level obedience class, Deacon is the one who abs refused to give up for 'down' although when he is simply watching others, he is more than happy to lay down. Stubborn!!!! Down was a tough one with Brodie as well but he does it via hand command from across a crowded room now so I figure it will come in time. Submissive command, so a tad harder. He is more of a fan of puppy obedience. He still does not care AT ALL for other dogs, not aggressive, being less frightened but remains uninterested in any but his own brothers.
Size - he does appear to be remaining small. Hard NOT to compare, sort of like with your kids, not supposed to but you do at times - remaining ever loving of each as individuals. Deacon was 15 3/4 lbs this morning at weigh in and shy of 13 1/2" at the shoulders. He is a full 1 1/2" shorter than Brodie at this age and about 6 oz lighter. He has been running heavier - Brodie must have chunked up where Deacon was already chunky. Brodie only grew 1/2" more and gained 3 lbs (he went up to 26 lbs - yikes! -but weighs 19 1/2 now). We call him Chub-Chubs and Midget.....
Personality - he LOVES humans and he loves, loves, loves his kitty! He plays with both Brodie and Kooper, but he and the cat are funny. Yesterday we watched our daughter's virtual graduation - the cat would come in play a bit, leave, but always return. Rusty doesn't stay away from Deacon for long.
Still working on the drooling in the car, it's getting better, but not gone. Still working on exposing him to things - it's slow but happening on his schedule. In the home, he is a far more confident dog than Brodie, outside it's switched around. He still LOVES to sing, is an awkward baritone that puts LOTS of emotions into his song. He loves to steal socks and any paper that can be shredded. He is so happy, always smiling, loves to jump and grab raindrops just the same as falling snow. I should have named him Shadow - he follows me even more than Brodie at times and Brodie is certainly never far. He has gained access to most of our downstairs; we still have the living room gated off and the family room is gated off most of the time but we are testing him to see how he does with open access there. He does well with grooming, not a fan of poop shoot trims, doesn't seemed fizzed by the Dremel. Strange boy though - LOVES hubby's battery powered leaf blower! Not fizzed by the air compressor I had running in the kitchen, walked right up to it to check it out, but the neighbor's Aussie terrifies him if she barks from inside their house.
