Dealing with noise anxiety

I just want to thank you for your feedback regarding DAP, clomipramine (clomicalm), and suggestion of melatonin. I have started Capers on DAP and a low dosage of clomipramine and cannot tell that there is any improvement yet. I'll ask my vet about melatonin.

Unfortunately we've had a string of 6 days (and mostly evenings or overnights) of thunderstorms. Last night she awoke me at 1 a.m. with her whining and knocking things over in an effort to hide behind them. The radar showed large thunderstorms that were approx. 40 miles away ! The storms came through 2 hours later and were very intense. Capers managed to move the shoe rack in my closet out 8 inches from the wall and wedged herself in the space. Fortunately Snap did not stir during the entire time !

Katherine since she wedged her self behind a shoe rack, have you tried a crate? Maybe borrow one that is kind of small, so she would feel really cozy and protected. I'm talking about the kind they use to transport dogs. The plastic hard sided ones. Or get one that is large enough that you could stuff like a fluffy comforter inside, so she could burrow down or hide. If you stuff a comforter, just make sure there are air spaces still open on the crate. Stick this in your closet. Remove the door and maybe hang a towel over the entrance. It might remind her of a den and help with the stress.
