Dental Water Additive

My vet suggested I try Clenz-a-Dent, which is a seaweed extract. So easy use - just sprinkle 1/8 teaspoon on their food once a day.

It is supposed to help clean the teeth, and improve bad breath.

After a month, I can say that my dog's breath has improved greatly.

Cara, it didn't say anything on the bottle that you can/can't let cat's drink it. There's another additive that's for cats in the same brand, but if the cat and dogs drink out of the same bowl then that would defeat the purpose. Maybe you can ask your vet or contact the company?

Oh you want deer, elk, moose antlers in all sizes...don't got to Petsmart.

You van encourage chewing by boiling in low sodium broth. It's funny that about 75% of my dog clients lone it and the res t not at all. And my my own dogs are in the 25%. Maybe a Sheltie thing.

I ordered mine from Yellowstone Antlers. It was cheaper and I wanted to put in a bulk order (I think we ordered 7 medium 6 months ago, we still have 4 in the freezer and most evenings we'll hear the delightful crunch/scrape of Olive gnawing on one).

Try boiling it in low sodium broth. Also split antlers are great because for less aggressive chewers they can get straight to the marrow

Well, I promised an update. It's been over a month and I'm really disappointed, I don't think it's good for fighting tarter, just maintaining already good teeth. I had really high hopes for this and at first thought there were improvements, but there doesn't seem to be a change in their teeth at all. Guess I'll have to get their teeth cleaned at the vet after all.

I think Mom2Melli said something about a product that really helped her dogs teeth on another thread. I can't remember what it was though.

Animal Essentials Plant Enzymes & Probiotics (Amazon) -- dip a wet toothbrush in and brush once a day. After a week, give the dogs a session with a bone. I found some online from Merrick that are prepared rather naturally but are not raw since I am worried about germs tracked all over the house from raw bones. I like the ones that don't have the knuckles because those break off and get eaten in a chunk. I found these more natural bone preparations on Amazon.

My shepherd with urgently bad tartered teeth is now 100% spotless and his gums have improved. I am using the powder in the food with each meal since he is a grumbly tummy kind of dog and am no longer brushing. This brand is the best probiotic at preventing the grumbly tummy on him and I think my sheltie has perked up noticeably since I started giving it to her too. She is much peppier and younger-seeming. I really think the enzymes loosened the tartar and the bone just pulled it right off easily. It took 2 bone sessions of 1 hour each for 100% clean.

Now, they get a greenie or similar chewable daily and once a week or two I give them 1 hour with a bone while I am watching TV or such and able to supervise.

I am really really horrifed that I have been through 4 dentals on my 3 previous Aussiesand all I needed was a bone under supervision and a little enzymic loosening to start the process. I will never do a dental again, let me just say.

Thank you (wish there was a way to bookmark a post). My Hanna has lovely white theft, no tartar and nice pink gums and I want to keep it that way. So filing this info away.
