Thanks BarbV. Yes, I guess I'm a "lurker". I lost my last sheltie last May, and I'm having trouble dealing with it, so I thought I'd live vicariously through you guys for a while. I made my new husband promise that I'd always have a dog, but I didn't say a sheltie. HUGE MISTAKE!!! He brought home a Bichon Frise. I feel sorry for the poor thing--he's always following me around and I guess I love him, but I sure don't like him. He's never going to be anything like a sheltie. Meantime I'm trying to talk my husband into getting a sheltie again this spring, in addition to the Bichon, and he seems game. Sorry, if I'm bringing you down. I'll just listen from now on.

Welcome Crystal. You're not bringing us down. We will just have to wait in anticipation to see who you get in the spring - just like we did with little Ellie that came home this past week to Lahree! and that was exciting for all of us.:biggrin2:

You are not bringing us down Crystal. We understand the love of shelties.

Heck, I even love them when they are squeaking all night and keeping me awake! :sleepy:

Ok, everyone cross your fingers for my big crew. My hubby will be taking them to the vet tomorrow at 3:30 pm for their first check-up and to have the dewclaws removed from 5 of the 9. If you're wanting to be specific about who to wish a pain-free procedure to, the dewclaw list is: MacTavish, MaggieMay, Angus, Lorna, and Nessie.:eek2:

Hi Crystal! Welcome to the group! There is a great group of people here! Don't worry, you aren't bringing any of us down. All of us have been there with the loss of a beloved sheltie and we all know that there is no other breed that can replace them. When you are ready, all of us would love to hear about your previous sheltie and we will be looking forward to you getting a new puppy too!

OK, we are back from the vet visit. He was enthusiastic about the health of all nine puppies and was a bit agog that Alan and I arrived with the nine puppies, a print out photo montage of their face and backs with their names for identification, and a second print out of their birth order, names, color markings, weight at birth, and dew claw status. He said we were "very organized" (I read there "compulsive")

As they had a vet emergency doggie in the back room, they were short on vet assistants. My husband and I took turns holding the puppy while the vet removed the dewclaws. Just like the last YouTube video I took, Lorna is the wailingest puppy on the planet. All of the others cried during the procedure with a very little bit of fussing afterwards. Lorna pitched a hissy as soon as I picked her up and squalled the entire time. She was still snubbing on the ride home. MaggieMay had double dewclaws and needed a bit more of the styptic medicine to stop the bleeding, but even so that was fast and she was back asleep within a few seconds of being returned to the pile of puppies.

Glad to hear the pups are doing well. Nine puppies are a tremendous amount of fun, but a ton of work. We had a litter of nine last year and it wasn't hard until we hit that time in between the mother stopping the clean-up of them and housebreaking. It seemed like all I ever did was clean up after them. :wink2:

Crystal, I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your Sheltie. I definitely understand all too well what you mean. We have 6 Shelties (one that's been bred) and 1 Miniature Schnauzer. No breed fits me as well as a Sheltie. After many years of animal rescue work, I had the chance to share my home with many different breeds. None of them came close to a Sheltie. I love everything about them. I could do without the barking sometimes, but they're my babies. :smile2:
