Do females mark?

I've never had a female that marked before, nor have I heard of it, so I had no clue if they did or not. But Ida isn't an alfa. She can get away with just about anything from the other dogs, but that's just because they love her so much, she's a manipulator not a commander!:wink2: So COULD she be marking, or is she just being naughty?

Try this one! It is well known in our area that human male urine deters rattlesnakes from entering an area. My husband, um, places human male urine at the gate to the dog area to hopefully prevent unauthorized visitors.

Shay politely sniffs and pees nearby in a "yea and I say so too" kind of way. Melody, sniffs, and then pees OVER the top of where my husband placed it.

First time she did THAT, I about died laughing.
 
The thing is though, females marking over the pee of other dogs is relatively common, but marking on your father's bed is an entirely different thing. As she's no longer an adolescent I'd be looking for other reasons.

Couple of things I can think of right now - is Ida fixed (could be a hormonal thing - I know intact male dogs tend to pee on women at that time of the month so as a trainer you get used to watching your intact males closely)? Pee marking is also an anxiety related issue - I'd be looking at anxiety issues if I were you, maybe even spraying on some dog pheromones in the area.
 
Does it stop if, say, she is allowed to be crated in the bedroom on the side of your dad at night? Or if Sarah is NOT allowed to sleep on the bed? Could this be dog jealousy rather than marking?
 
Caro, yes, she's intact (hopefully soon to change), she had her last (and first) heat in September, so she is getting very close. It could be hormones, but she's been 'going' on the bed for the past few months now, it just so happened that we accidentally left the door open yesterday. Also she isn't peeing, she's pooping. In fact, I don't think she's peed indoors since she was about 7 months old, she'll be 18 months in just a few days.

Ha! Yah, YOU tell my mom and dad not to sleep with Sarah! I'll be the one hiding around the corner!:lol: Ida's always slept in my bed and never has had any accidents, and I really don't want to stress her out. She gets anxious very easily and I don't want to risk that for a 'maybe this will help'. I do think this is very likely jealousy. Girls! We gotta love em!:rolleyes2:
 
My Jonesie Dream not only marks, but lifts her leg.

It is kind of funny to see this petite little girl act like such a tomboy.
