I can see 6 dog beds and 4 crates from the couch as I type this- three shelties on the floor
Do I get a bed or not???

Mine don't use the beds I bought. And I love shopping for dog beds too 
When it's warm, they'd rather sleep on the tile flooring, when it's cool, they'll climb into my bed.
Their dog beds are... resting spots for their toys.

I have the crate liner pads with bolsters. those go on the couch in the spot Gavin lays in and on the chair he likes (it takes up the whole thing). he knows it's ok for him to sleep there 
He has a round comfy bed with big bolsters that goes under my kitchen table. he loves it!!! i find him sleeping there all the time. but it wasn't cheap.

Miko's not a big fan of beds. He's had a couple… rarely slept on them and ended up chewing them eventually.
He now has a crate liner with bolsters that sits on the floor next to my bed (he's not allowed on the bed). He sleeps on it sometimes… but just as often I find him out in the livingroom on the carpet, on the tile by the front door, up on my son's bed (bad dog! LOL), etc.
The crate liner provides him with some fun though… he spends a lot of time attacking it, shaking it around, flipping it, scratching at it, etc.

I have one dog bed. Indy sleeps on it when Bacca kicks him off the bed.
Bacca (aka Prince) takes precedence on the big bed. Indy finds a corner if he is lucky.
In reality, my dogs move all around all night. When they get hot, they find tile or hardwood to sleep on. When they want cuddles, they are back up on the bed. I'm not really sure why I keep the one bed for Indy. I guess its just the one space that is his own, since "prince" owns everything else.
Its not a big deal, just a thin fake sheepskin with a little ridge for him to rest his tiny head. But he seems happy with it.
Now, with my new Pet Shop Owner voice: By all means, every dog should have their own luxory sleeping space. The bigger and poofier the better. Your pup will LOVE you forever for this space. And while you're at it.....water dispensing systems would be appreciated by them as well. I mean, what Sheltie would EVER drink stale water (Inside voice: ok, um, yes mine would....they LOVE mud puddles for drinking!)
Ok, I think I just killed my own business case for my store!
But seriously, the dogs will sleep just about anywhere and be happy. Truly! But don't tell my buyers that!
