Strider only likes Shelties. He was a rescue and was attacked by a German Shephard. He has the sweetest disposition and never meets a human stranger but dogs are a different story. But he loves Shelties. Other breeds as long as they are smaller than him will eventually warm him up. But Shelties are just like family. I think that is because he was in a foster home with many Shelties. Now, Sheldon doesn't like any other dog but Strider. He won't attack or get upset he ignores them like they aren't even there. He is the same with humans too. Only likes his Family.
In all the months we have been going to the dog park we have never seen another Shelite (with the exception of her very frist trip there when we met Steven and Wyatt from the forum for a playday). However, to our great delight, at the dog park yesterday in walks a nice young lady with a 8 month old female Sheltie (Lilly) who was dumped at the pound! Ellie saw her from across the field and ran to her. Ellie takes a long time to warm up to other dogs, but with Lilly, it was BFF's immediately! They were totally enthralled with each other. Oblivious to all other dogs. They played completely differently that I have ever seen. Ellie only likes to play chase with other dogs. No wrestling. However, she and Lilly played hearding games. Dart-dash-dart-dash, spin, twist, push, cutting off each other's retreats, and a lot of mouthing, and pawing each other like cats! It was hilarious! They played forever and only with each other. Lilly's owner said she had never seen Lilly take to another dog like that. So I am totally convinced now that Shelties do indeed recognize each other.

Abbey never meet another Sheltie but, she was friends with the Black Lab next door. She was always cautious of her though.
