Does spaying really improve her shedding?

My female, 1 year old is shedding a lot. I am considering spaying her and I would like to know if after being spayed your dog shed less?

Yes, it did for my female I had years ago. She only blew her coat once a year instead of twice with her heat cycles.

Others might have a different experience.

my spayed girl sheds as much as the neutered boys- have never had an intact sheltie of either sex to compare though

I say like Gloria : She only blew her coat once a year instead of twice with her heat cycles.

Minnie shed over a couple of months, and I'll take care to brush her 2 times every week
- and make sure I get brushed to the bottom when she shed the last undercoat.

Yes it will. Females tend to blow coat four months after a heat cycle.
Settling those hormones will help her to have a big coat.

Also... if you don’t use your girls for breeding... spaying is a must. Pyometra is high risk for girls that have an empty uterus every heat cycle.
