Does your Sheltie go nuts when you return

When I go out during the day/night I still crate my dogs. I never let them out of their crates if they are barking so they are usually silent when I come home. When I let them out of their crates, they race for the back door and run outside. I never get greeted during just a day outting :( They are usually more excited about getting outside and running around.

We've recently gone back to crating, and now we're going back to the puppy thing of ignoring the dogs when we come home until they're calmer.

Lexi used to get very excited and maybe bark once or twice, which I was okay with. Now she's started barking constantly, so she gets ignored until she's quiet. I have a feeling it won't take her long to figure it out.

I like it when they get excited, but don't want them jumping on me or barking incessantly. Luckily neither of mine jump up.

My DH tells me they KNOW when it's time for me to come home from work and wait at the door. As soon as I open it, I have 4 shelties spinning, barking and Cody jumps up on me. I tell them to back up, put my purse down, and walk over to sit on the couch. Then, each one takes turns jumping on the couch to give kisses and get hugs.

I wouldn't have it any other way!!!!

There must be something wrong with me. The sheltie chaos when I get home is unnerving. I don't find it enjoyable at all. Meggie barks incessantly and Cooper literally throws his body at me. Lottie Jean is the only civil one, she barks a few times and does her best to jump on me, which is equivalent to about 3" off the ground. She always makes me smile.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy they're glad to see me, but they're so out of control that there is no way to calm them down. Once they've gone outside they all settle down, but those first few minutes are very stressful for me.

BTW, when it was just Meggie she would wiggle her rear end uncontrollably and jump on me a bit, but she never did this constant barking until I got the other dogs.

Nothing wrong with you Suzie! Even though Bailey gets extremely excited when I get home, she doesn't cross the crazy line. Since day 1, I made sure I did not pet her when she barked or jumped on me when I returned home.

She is gated in my bedroom when I am away. As soon as I walk in, she stands at the gate and wags her tail. She waits patiently (no barking) as I put away my jacket, shoes and purse away and check the mail. She has to sit and wait while I remove the gate. After I remove the gate, I allow her to go crazy. While she is wiggling her butt, rolling on the carpet and wagging her tail, she doesn't really bark. If she did, I would stop petting her. Because she knows this, she will bark silently for attention. She'll move her mouth and look like she's barking, but nothing comes out. It's adorable. I do let her jump on me if I kneel down to her level. She'll put her paws on my shoulders and lick my face.

Remember, the more excited you get, the more excited they get. I try to remain calm when I greet her, so she doesn't get too crazy, but who can resist a sweet-eyed sheltie, waging her tail and waiting to kiss you?

Our two are also crated so they are quiet and quite controlled when they leave their crates and head out to the family room. Once there they will jump up to make sure I hand out some luvin, then it is a few minutes of bum wiggling and pats and rubs!

Can you please see Liam the memo not to get so excited?

My shelties know time too, they know when the hub is suppose to be home. They wait at the door, then they go nuts, Lucky makes these crazy sounds, get in her dad. Lady sticks her nose right between Lucky and the door.

When I come in, its from the grocery store usually, so yep they go nuts, whats in all the bags, let me smell, give me some pats. Look we have been good while you were gone.

When I come home, if they aren't barking and squeaking a toy then I know they were up to something. Usually Tully has been on the benchtops or in the cupboards and they are too busy scoffing the evidence before I open the door to great me.

If I want to sneak up on them, or have a quiet welcome, I park the car around the side. As soon as they hear my car they go silly, when I come home and they don't hear the car it doesnt give them time to get worked up.

Hamish used to start going to the front window over an hour before I got home, looking for me. When I came in and spoke to him, I got a long long story about his day.

When I was a kid, we had a collie/shepherd cross (I know-not Sheltie). Portia could tell when Dad's vehicle turned off the main road onto our concession and we lived a mile and a half in from the main road.

I'm only gone about 7/8hrs a day, alfie greets me by coming downstairs and wriggles his butt while trying to jump on me for pats. He calms down as soon as I tell him to sit though. So no crazy 3 feet jump straight into the air for me lol
