Doggie Dentistry

Oh Chris! Poor Colonel Underpants!

My neighbor's lab had a slab fracture of his carnassial tooth and he ended up having it extracted too! Good news is that within a few days, he was out chasing birds like nothing happened.

I'm sure your boy will be felling better in no time!

Oh no Colonel. Once you get that out you'll be back to your old self. In the meantime I'm sure Mom and Dad will be giving you extra loving.

Just found this post, sending get well wishes for Beckon. Hope he recovers quickly so he can get back to herding his chicken. That is why I am leary of such hard bones.

No oh Col, I'm sorry to hear this.

Canine teeth are not chewing teeth they are grabing and holding teeth so it is unlikely the fracture occured from chewing on something hard. More likely he got it caught on something. Most common cause is getting in caught on kennel bars.

Hope the extraction goes well.

We think we figured out the cause -- or DS did. When we leave, Beckon races out the dog door to the fence. He bites the fence post fiercely -- all in good fun -- to show his objection to our departure. The post is all torn up on that side. We figure that's where he cracked it and weakened it -- and probably where he lost it.

Awww, poor guy! I bet he will feel better, AND look adorably pirate-y after his extraction.

Both of Murphy's upper canines are either worn down, or have the points chipped off. Can't figure out why, except that he is absolutely addicted to his Wubba toy, and catches it mid-air while in the midst of a show-quality flying leap. I've often wondered if the force of him catching this thing at such speeds would hurt him....The vet didn't think so though. I just can't imagine what else would wear both of them down like that.
