Dremel

I always sit with their head on my chest like you'd have a child sit in your lap. You just need to find the position that works best for you and your pupper.

I use this position, too. Marlowe is a very big sheltie so I need to be able to wrap my arms around when he gets really squirmy.

Noneeds4me is absolutely correct in pointing out that it can get hot really fast. Usually, I sand the nail a little, touch the end of the nail to see how hot it is and, if it is hot, I move onto the next one.

Everyone has really great advice. I also sit down and lay Bailey on her back, so I have two free hands.
when it gets here, i will have to try to do it like this!

The only other tip I have is make sure your hair it tied back (if you have long hair). Your hair can just as easily get caught in the dremel.

EEE!:eek2: another VERY good point! i have really long hair so that would be really bad and probably painful to try to get out

I had a pedicure and gave up on it after only a few weeks. I found it under-powered and would not recommend it to anyone.

Which dremmel are you buying?

If it is not too late, I hightly recommend you think about the Stylus 1100

Its rechargeable, has excellent power (you can adjust the speed) and the hand design allows you to change hand position easily to get at the dog's nails no matter what position he is in.

Like most, I tend to do nails on the floor using my legs to "anchor" the dogs into position.

Others have already posted the Dremel instruction sheet for dogs.

I will add the following link:

The only other thing I will add.....trim the feet first! And make sure the pups tail is far away from the dremmel. Poor Indy got his tail wound up into the dremmel because I glanced up for something! It set us back weeks!

Ok… as much as I'd like to use a dremel on Miko's nails… I can see that my first order of business is going to be getting that dog on his back. NO WAY will he let me put him on his back!!... NO WAY!! I've tried before, in order to brush his belly… He squirmed and fought me like I was trying to kill him!! He barely even wants to be on his side, let alone his back!!

Does anyone else have a dog like this? Does it mean he doesn't trust me?

This is the one we got. it is cordless, and rechargeable, and it has 2 speeds
Dremel 7300-PT 4.8-Volt Pet Grooming Kit
anyone have any experience with this one?

That's the dremel I have. I also got it from amazon. I use the low setting on Bailey and it works like a charm. No complaints from me.

My biggest issue is that Bailey tries to lick the dremel!

I work with dogs that don't like to be on their back often. Stand him next to you, facing away. I put them on my right because I am right handed. I reach up to their body, and roll them down over my right (out stretched) leg. Then quickly lift your left leg over his neck. Remember, no pressure needed. Now he is firmly upside down between your two legs. I hope I explained this well.
