Ear training

Wish I had known this when I was doing Laddie's ears!
This is what happened since I did not brace as you recommended... his ear set was farther apart than what wanted.
Good advice Ann, as usual!

Thank you Ann for your quick reply. Yes I am bracing them. I am using Japanese Tape to tip the ears and Yarn to brace/bring them together. the 2 litter mates look like your picture, its just the one girl in the litter, the ear bends back as I am bracing them together. I took the brace out just to let the ear have a rest for today (only started 2 - 3 days ago with them), but need to brace them again to make sure the ears will have a nice set on the head in the end. I am thinking I need to put in a shim of some sort to keep it from folding back.

Interesting, Mausie. I admit I'm stumped. I've had ears that stand up, go hound, ears too far apart, but I've never seen one fall back. You're doing all the right things. How is the ear leather? Is it very thin? Perhaps if it's thin and weak, that's the reason it's falling. You might consider a supplement to strengthen the leather if that's the case. I've heard calcium does that but I'm reluctant to overdo that with a puppy because of the danger of compromising bone structure so I'd use it very judiciously.

Two methods I've heard of for correcting hound ears that may help you: use a Breathe Right strip to prop the ear up, or cut a piece of plastic from the zip end of a small plastic bag and use that. Good luck and let us know how it goes! It's always helpful to hear new methods of solving these things.

thank you Ann, I honestly hope I get it right soon. Will need to see what I can get here in Namibia, we almost always have to get everything in :(. will update once I know. have a wonderful day from Namibia :)

Good day! I said I would get back on the ear taping issue of one of the pups. I just doubled up on the tape + it sorted the issue out no problem. The pups are now 5 + a half months old + thec2 girlies are with their new owners + I kept the male with me. Thank you Ann for all your quick responses + help
