early riser?

It sounds like Baker is getting a jump on the time change from daylight saving time! If you think it's bad now, wait till we change the clocks to see how it messes up the schedule. :uhoh:

I would try waiting Baker out. If you think he really has to go, taking him out and putting him right back in the crate is the way to go. However, past 10 weeks or so (I can't recall how many weeks Baker is) he can hold it for 8 hours overnight. I would let him whine for a few minutes before you get up. Usually they'll stop and go back to sleep. It's a tough cycle to break but I've found when puppies do this and you get up and take them out, it reinforces the new time. :rolleyes2:

Ruffles woke me up at 5 every morning for the longest time. (Normal rising time here is 6.) Then one day around 6 months, she suddenly started sleeping in. Now she's the last dog in the room to wake up, even once I'm up. Hang in there, it does happen! :sleepy:

Thanks everyone! I took (18 week old) Baker out at 11 last night for a quick pee. When I put him back in his crate I told him that we were very tired & I needed him to sleep until at least 5.

Well...happy to report that he was a quiet boy until 5:15 this morning! Maybe those two 4:00 mornings were just a fluke - but seriously, on the weekend???

I'm with Ann. I think our little friends will wake us up early simply because they can, and they know we will react to their whining. From the time I brought my boy home at 4 months, he has never wanted to go outside to potty later than 7 p.m. When I think of all the cold nights I stood outside with him at 10 and 11 p.m. . . .

He may be the one in a million that has a ten gallon bladder, and even though he would try to get me up at 5:30 (I'm retired and not about to start that schedule again!) I would ignore him till a reasonable hour and he had no problem with it. Now he'll let me sleep till 7 a.m. Still will not go outside at night after 7 or the latest 8 p.m. He's ready for bed at 9, that's never changed, but he just flakes out wherever I am till I'm ready for bed.

Gosh, I have mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes, skunks, opossums, tarantulas, and rattlers. We have fences within fences and still that doesn't keep everyone 100% out. Not only do I have to accompany to the potty, I have to stand at the door and make a quick survey before I release them to go out.

When my Laddie was young he would get me up at 4:00! I began to eliminate water earlier and that did fix the problem... :biggrin2:

Thanks - we took the water away last night - not sure if that helped, but it was so nice not to hear him screaming bloody murder at 4 this morning!

I'm not sure that would work with Lacey. She does get taken out around 11:00 before she gets put down for the night, although she is asleep by 8 ish.
