Elijah's gallbladder surgery is 8/7

Just spoke with the vet. He is tolerating oral medications and eating some, not a lot. He is coming home today, I don't have a time yet. Hoping early afternoon. It's a 40 minute drive and I'd like to avoid rush hour traffic. Vet is quite happy with how he's looking and acting. She wants him back Tuesday AM to recheck bilirubin. After that tear in the duct they want to make sure there's no leakage. I will update this afternoon or evening after he's home.
 
He is home, looking kind of stoned. He was happy to see us and settled into my hubby's arms in the backseat for the drive home. He has not been eating well even with the nausea meds onboard. As soon as we got him home he peed and then had a nice normal poop! I was really happy about that. But at dinner, even though he acted quite hungry, he refused two different kinds of canned food. I gave him some baby food and he ate that up. So weird - usually my dogs snarf any canned food up because they don't normally get it!

I finally decided to offer him two pieces of his kibble - well he inhaled it! So we crushed some of his kibble and put warm water on it, and he ate that up. I texted my retired vet friend to see if that was going to be OK and he said yes. I did add some canned pumpkin because they don't want him to get constipated. He also ate two small watermelon cubes. I don't mind him wanting his kibble but it's harder to digest than canned. Well, he's keeping it down and snoozing right next to me in a dog bed. He would not settle down in the crate, just stood there. So we let him out, on leash, and had him just hang with us and he was happier. He will sleep in our very small bathroom tonight right next to us.

Here he is, looking kind of bewildered in his surgical suit and in a crate. I know he was wondering what he'd done to deserve this.

And unfortunately they shaved a LOT more on his sides than I thought they would - looks like a greyhound now. :(

So grateful though that they got him through a very complicated surgery.

Poor Eli….it must be very confusing for him right now…. His head must be spinning with all of this!
I’m so glad he’s home at last! Now the hard part begins…keeping him from overdoing things! You’ll have your work cut out for you.
I hope you all sleep well tonight with your precious boy with you again!
