Ellie/Elliott Update

I'm so sorry Ellie has to get surgery. Poor girl has suffered so much already. :( I know the surgery will be a little painful and uncomfortable for her, but she will be much better off in the long run. She is young, so her recovery will be easier and she'll feel so much better when she fully heals.

Let us know when she going in for the surgery, so we can all keep her in our thoughts.

I hope Ellie has a safe surgery and SWIFT recovery. And that they give you some good pain meds for her during that time.

if you vet is questioning whether he can do this surgery alone, go with specialist.... nothing against your vet but stack your cards wisely, person who've done similar surgeries often more likely to have "better hands"
Hugs to Ellie!

Nothing against your vet either, I am sure he is a fine surgeon but I tend to agree if you can afford the specialist go that route. This is not something you want to have to do again. Stack the odds in your favor if you can.

There are many surgeries I can do(and do well) but I will always give the option of a referal as lets face, it that is why they are specialists. It is all they do and they tend to be better at it.

Please lets us know when Ellie has her surgery. Sends healing prayers and good wishes.

I know I should know this, but can't find the earlier thread-
What is the surgery that is being considered?
That would give us a better idea of whether its a GP thing or more in the realm of the specialist. - Dr. Mac

She has to have a vulvaplasty. She has a malformed vulva and she seeps blood from it. She does not have a UTI, but she always seeps blood. She eats/drinks/plays/peeps/poops/behaves normally. There are also concerns whether she is a hermaphodite and perhaps has testes insides. That would have been noticed by our vet during a spay, but Ellie's regular vet did not do her spay, it was done by a low cost S&N clinic and she almost died. Ellie's vet saved her life. He is our hero.

He also continues to be our hero because he didn't just say, "Oh, I can do THAT. No problem, let's get her schedueld." Instead, he immediately mentioned his buddy the reproduction specialist. I am sure that the specialist will be in fact doing the operation or at least assisting.

I appreciate everyone's concerns and TOTALLY understand the advice about having a specialist do the operation. I know that it will no doubt cost us an arm and a leg. In her short life, Ellie has cost us approximately a gazillion-bazillion dollars in medical care. What's another million? :wink2:
