a few reasons why i am not worried are:
dogs are not fish.. may essential oils, or even a slight chemical change like nitrates in a fish take can kill them. lets think about this for a second.... what DOESNT cause mortality in fish if you add it in the water?
every clinical study that i have seen was done on rats. it MAY possibly cause cancer in rats. well, see the thing is... rats get cancer over silly stuff. did you know that orange juice, pineapple juice, and most artificial sweeteners CAUSE cancer in rats? and most rats pampered spoiled rats die of cancer by age 2 1/2 to 3 yrs old.
Ethoxyquin (E) is required by law to be added to all fish meal. You can see this straight from the coast guards website. I wouldnt be surprised if those "better" dog food companies that said they do not use it, and their manufactures dont use it... lie. The coast guard says they must.
Ethoxyquin in dog food is wayyyy wayyy below the possibly harmful limit, and most all of it is cooked out. Dog food with fish meal known to have E in it was tested and they usually could not even find one little trace because it was cooked out, or the levels were so low it was untraceable. Even before the FDA wanted everyone to lower the level to 75 ppm most dog food companies were only using about 50 ppm in the first place. Today it is much lower than that. (let me go do some research and i will tell you how much lower, i dont remember... i am thinking like 15 ppm)
I am not trying to convince anyone to buy a dog food with Ethoxyquin in it. I think everyone should do what they are comfortable with.
Also, if you decided to do some research online... most of the articles you come across first talk about how horrible and deadly it is. dont let the first few articles startle you. keep looking at websites. call professionals. talk to people, email people.
most of those websites that talk about how deadly E is are horrible articles. They do not have any references or anything, its like someone just came up with this off their heads and passed it around like a high school rumor. There are also reports of E causing issues in dogs. these reports are basically just someone blaming E for health issues with nothing to back it up at all. It is really important to decided how credible the article you are reading is.
And chickens are fed food very highly preserved with E. That E free dog food containing chicken might every well still possibly have traces of E in it because it is very high in the food that the chickens eat.
thanks for reading!
