I had a sheltie for 8 years & my tasha went to heaven this october:cry: i have been in touch with the breeder in oregon, just a little upset as that i feel lack of updates or details

Which part of Oregon does the breeder live? Can you ask that question? I live in Oregon and talked to a couple of very stellar breeders around the Portland area. One actually knew the stud dog of my first Sheltie. So she has been breeding and showing dogs for a long time. The person that I got my pup from is just a sweetheart. I also think her hubby is probably just a big pushover when it comes to the dogs. I say this because mine just loves men. A lot of times dogs kind of shy away from men. Not her, she will get up in their face if they don't pay attention to her. I suspect he spent a lot of time petting and holding the puppies. She has a very sweet personality and is a really pretty dog.

Oregon has this new law that supposedly is to keep puppy mills closed down. However, as with most things, I don't know how that is affecting the actual breeders. I'm sure they are bogged down in paperwork, etc. that has to be put into place the first of this year. Maybe that is why the breeder has not been as responsive as you would like.

I suspect this is the lady who has been breeding and showing dogs for some time. Does she also board dogs? Kind of back in the middle of no-where with her kennel in front of the house? I think she also runs the rescue for Shelties. I checked out her dogs and they seemed to be very well built dogs. (Would that be the correct term?) I was actually on her list, until I just happened to run into my current pup.

Just to set your mind at ease, she seems to be a little "gruff" but she seems to really be into her dogs and their care. Maybe it's because she does deal with rescue so she is kind of skeptical when it comes to people's ability to take care of their dog. At the time, she had a Sheltie rescue that was in bad shape that she was rehabilitating. It was very sad the way this poor pup had been treated. When I was there someone brought their Sheltie to board. I really wanted to educate them on the way they had let the dog's nails grow and it was actually affecting the way the dog was walking. Just from my brief encounter, I'm sure that she "educated" them about the care of their pet. So I'm sure, over the years, that she has seen some very clueless owners.

This forum is really for quick introductions & a way to say hello for new members. It sounds like this thread needs to be closed & we start a new one over at the breeding section?

To recap, here is the rule about discussing breeders & breeding:

Dogs / Puppies– Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of dogs is permitted. If the post contains the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a dog you or an associate are looking for or are looking to sell, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

So if you all want to talk specifics or about specific breeders, you need to do so via email or the private message feature. Please feel free to PM me with any questions. Thanks everyone! :smile2:

I apologize. I bad! It just struck me that there was something wrong with this. And I forgot the rules, wanting to get to the bottom of it - particularly because we'd been posting lately about puppy mills.

On that note....a number of us have posted websites that we believe to be puppymills. Is that against the rules?

Technically no since you are trying to warn everyone to not buy a dog from them. :biggrin2: But by posting active links to their websites is encouraging folks to click on those links & drive traffic to them. It might be better to list them without the active link.

I'm going to close this thread & I'd like to encourage anglegirl to start a new one over at the breeding forum so you can continue the conversation. And also feel free to use the PM feature to discuss specifics.
