Eye problems

I have two 10 month old Puppies, The female has never had an eye problem, but the male has had one eye that had a blocked tear duck, he grew out of that. Then a few months later he had a runny other eye. Then that past, now he has an eye that he is squinting to open. Do Shelties have any big eye problems.:eek2:

The eye that he is squinting sounds like it may have gotten something in it or even have gotten a tiny scratch on the surface that is not visible to you. You might try washing his eye out with something like a gentle tears product to see if it is a problem with something having gotten into his eye. But if that doesn't solve the squinting I would definitely have that eye checked out by your vet.

I honestly wouldn't classify shelties as a breed that typically has multiple serious eye issues.

I would be getting it checked out by your vet. Has there been any change in the colour of the white or the iris? A friend's Sheltie has both blue irises turn brown. She was diagnosed with anterior uveitis. There is also concern for uveodermatologic syndrome, rare for our breed.

Whenever there is a concern, it never hurts to have it checked out.

Gunner had an appointment with my vet today, thank you for your feed back. He has had problems off and on and I think is wise to have him checked out. I'll keep you posted :yes

Glad you're taking him in. It is always better to err on the side of caution and make sure there are no real issues. My Liam developed cholesterol deposits in the eye, which did disappear, and he also had a lot of discharge until I finally found a food he could tolerate.

Eye. Diagnosis

Gunner went to the vet today, the vet put die in his eyes and was able to diagnose him with ulcers on his eyes. This is from him either playing to rough in the snow or with his sibling. She sent me home with drop anabiotic's and hopefully this will cure his problem. I'm so glad I brought him. :wink2:

Good job...having gotten him to the vet and had those ulcers dx'd before they could do permanent damage. He should heal with the antibiotic drops.
