Favorite other than Shelties?

I grew up with a bearded collie. LOVED that dog! There will always and only ever be one Mandy. But I could get another-easily. We also had a Great Dane, but pooper scooping after one of those makes it a No on my list.

I don't really know too many breeds. My mom has a Boston Terror, I don't know about the rest of the breed, but that dog is just the dumbest creature I've ever met. He is a bit mean too. Its on my Never-Ever list.

the normal dog thinks, "My human says sit, okay I'll sit". A Northern dog thinks, "My human says sit. Is that really the right thing to do? Is it safe? Okay, seems okay, I'll sit."

Whereas the Scottish breeds say, "You say to do something. Well, convince me it's really what I want to do. I'm skeptical."

there are so many breeds I would love to have, but realistically will never happen. To name a few... husky, GSD, st. poodle, Norfolk terrier irish red and white setter, Doberman, collie, aussie. :gaah

Against my advise my wife insisted on a miniature Australian shepherd. This week we picked up the beautiful 8 week old blue merle girl and so far she (Pepper) and Toby (my 2 yr old sheltie) are getting along great. Guess will have to wait awhile to do a real comparison but initial impression is good.

Not wanting to derail the thread, but I like the idea of an Aussie in a smaller size, but sometimes they just end up looking so weird. I've seen so many bug-eyed, weird looking ones, I would probably never get one. I have also seen a few really really cute ones, but they are definitely the minority. And part of the bug-eyed thing is for some reason, they like to purposely breed for blue eyes, even in non-merled coats. Blue eyes seem to exacerbate the bug-eyed look.

Tinsel's new sister will arrive in about 7 weeks. Born on Mother's day, our home will be graced by a new Tervuren girl. Of course, love westies but Belgians will always have a piece of my heart.

It will always be Shelties for me! I love their size, energy, enthusiasm and most of all their loveable nature.

Growing up I would have given ANYTHING for a Rough Collie, though. DH grew up with Cockers, but if we ever got one, it would have to be an English Cocker - with a tail (not against docking, but DH and I like the look of a full tail). DH wants a German Shepherd someday, I do believe. My sister has one, and I call her "favorite" LOL. Her actual name is Cody, but I do love her so. She kind of has the personality of Addie.

I would have to say my backup breed is the Mudi. Similar to Shelties in some ways...I love them! I just haven't found quite what I'm looking for without importing and I'd rather not import.
