Favorite other than Shelties?

Interesting that spitz breeds and other pastoral breeds seem to be most popular - no Gundogs or Hounds?:smile2:

Schipperke, Kooikerhondje (I like the spelling challenge!), Papillion and
Miniature Poodles (Phantom ones are stunning). I would love a small, rangy BC but working not show type. Catalan Sheepdog. I've also developed a soft spot for BC crosses with Papillion or spitz - they're a lovely size, pretty and seem to make nice agility dogs. Surprisingly I find myself rather taken with Cockapoos but they do seem to have a lot of excess energy. Pumis are also lovely. Basically small dogs then!! But in reality I can't see myself with anything other than shelties - apart from when they are in a barking mood and then I would probably have anything quiet!!

Collie, king charles spaniel, golden retreiver, cocker spaniel, bishon

Possible standard aussie and , if they didn' t drool, newfoundland, well bred lab but the jumping and chewing is a big strike,
And i hear/ have read havanese would be a good fit for us but have 't personally met one

I am 105 lbs so big dogs arent ruled out but would have to be the right one

Shelties are my heart dog but anything with the loyalty to family and gentleness of spirit could suck me in especially if smart to boot

We currently have a whippet in the house with our sheltie. She is a lovely dog, and I'm glad husband wanted a whippet so I would have the pleasure of having one. She was supposed to be "his" dog, but isn't.

She is very different from a sheltie, but heck, I think the sheltie I have is very different from a sheltie.

If I were to pick a breed different from a sheltie, I'm quite partial to border terriers. I prefer the under 30 lbs size, so many of the dogs I'm attracted to would not really work in my lifestyle.

I grew up with foxhounds, and that is the goofiest dog EVER, sweet natured, and great with kids, because they are so protective, we could go anywhere as long as the dogs accompanied us/great babysitters was my mom's take, ha. But ours were droolers, and I hated that. They weighed probably 70 lbs and their wagging tails were an issue inside. Ours HATED sirens, and ours went crazy baying just before earthquakes, so we always knew they were coming and got in doorways for safety. (CA)

Shelties stole my heart when I got one years ago for a birthday present...can't imagine having any other kind now.

My heart dog was a fawn bearded collie. When she died, I knew another beardie wouldn't even come close so I went with a rough collie, Kona. I've always liked long hair on dogs so all the ones I'm drawn to are that way. Kona is a bit more aloof than the normal collie. Gus, the sheltie, is a failed foster. He's an older, arthritic, hypothroid, allergic, chronic bronchitis special child.

If I ever strayed away from a herding breed, I've always liked Cavaliers (minus their health problems) and there is a super sweet Basenji at the dog park.

I like a really good farm Corgi but Olive hates them after running into quite a few hot messes, and DH doesn't have great experiences either (almost all of the "good" corgis I know were from the same line so ...) Papillions aren't bad and I'd like to meet some of the more uncommon herding breeds (Icelandics, Pyr Sheps, Lapphund, Buhund, etc). I liked the Tervurians and other Belgians I've met but probably too high drive for us.

DH and I will probably only have Shelties (for me) and Goldens (for him). He finds Shelties barky and on the small side and I find Goldens too goofy. I keep telling him that an oversized Sheltie is just want he needs but he doesn't believe me.

Simba is my first Sheltie and definitely won't be my last! I have fallen in love with the breed. My second favorite breed has to be the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. I would also love another staffie in the future :)

Apart from those two breeds I love German Shepherds, Collies and of course any mixed breed around :D

I've owned a yorkie, some bichons, a chihuahua, and some mutts growing up. But I don't think I would ever choose one for myself... same with poms which my sister had.

Other than that, I don't have much experience with any other breeds, however when we were still living in an apartment I met a airedale terrier at a petsmart adoption day. I knelt down to pet him, and he put his paws on my knees, dropped his head down onto them and stared at me with the very gentlest look I've ever seen. He stayed like that for about five minutes while I petted him and fell head over heels in love, and my husband tapped his foot and tried to get me to leave.

I really want to spend some time with others of the breed to see if it was just that specific dog, or if it's the breed in general. I didn't even have that kind of a connection with Honey when I met her. If we had lived in the house when I met him, I'd never have walked out of that store without him. As it is I sent his info to every friend I had with a house trying to convince them to get him! (just so I could then volunteer to watch him during the day when they were at work!)

Oh to name but a few! Will always have a Sheltie or two :) but I AM getting a Pappilon next year if all goes well to round out my crazy family :)
My first choice woulda been a Borzoi then Ibizen hound or a Greyhound... but not realistic to my lifestyle or the boys nor my budget... I'd have to get a bigger car, too lol

I will always have a Sheltie but when I get another dog I would love to get a BC, Aussie or maybe a Smooth Collie. I want to become a better agility handler before I get a BC. I think maybe when Riley is 5 or 6 it would be a nice to get another dog.
