feet clippers

(p.s. I thought I got this idea from Ontario Sheltie (maybe I'm wrong), but I see below that she has "upgraded")

Nope, not me, my Wahl Peanut is the first shaver I've bought.

I'm considering switching to the Dremel Sylus, but haven't been able to justify it yet. My $10 imitation dremel seems to work just fine, but the stylus looks so great!

Dang! Must find out who put me on to it. It cost me a whopping $12 and still works great.

I ordered this one:
https://www.petedge.com/product/Wahl-Touch-Up-Trimmer/54068.uts

I used it for the first time tonight and it worked great. I trimmed the fur on her paws and trimmed her a poop chute. Took less than 15 mins to for a quick overall trim.

I spend 80 bucks on a trimmer similar to that one and it sucked... it got bogged down in all the fur ...(of course i am far from A "groomer".) But i would like to be able to do it myself instead of having to wait to take my pup to a vet or groomer.(you can tell they are sad when there is poo all over them). And i dont like to call the vet/groomer and say i need you to clean my dog's A S S cuz he pooped himself . (makes me feel like a bad owner.)

I very well may be doing it wrong.. there is soo much fur back there that I dont know where to start!!! (this was with my departed dog). From what i have been reading .. i think i was doing it wrong..but i need to learn cuz im sure Snickers is gonna have to have the (_x_)chute trimmed sooner or later. Also ...I never knew you should trim the fur on their paws.... (learning more everyday). LOVE this forum!!!

We use the small scissors to do the bottoms of paws here.I find I am more accurate & quicker with them.

I know it makes a world of differance trimming that hair on bottoms of paws, and trimming the hair even with pads.I find they don't slide on floors as much.

It was easier for me because Bailey's vet had shaved a poop chute a few months ago, so the hair wasn't as long.

If she didn't already have a previous chute, then I would've trimmed the hair down to an inch or so and used an electric razor for the rest.

But take my advice with a grain of salt. I have no grooming experience. This is my first time ever grooming a dog.

so maybe for the first poop chute trim.. i will get it done by a pro then just keep it in check on my own:razz:

My only advice..make sure your groomer knows what you are asking them to do,or if possible stay while its getting done.So you make sure it is what you want.

I don't have a problem with groomers, but some may be clueless or cut to much off. That would be my only issue. Some people just need really good decriptions.

If I went and picked up my dog,and the person says to me.."oh yea no problem,I know just what your looking for"..then I pick up my dog and he has been at the hands of a groomer that got scissor happy or clipper happy, the person would want to make sure they were ready for an a*** chewing.

I was quite intimidated about doing a shute the first time, and it may not have been perfect..but with all the explainations here, and folks are so willing to help,I just went and did it myself. Now I'm quite comfy doing it,even bottoms of the feet.

I know there are scads of vids on YouTube, about grooming shelties.I know there is an online seminar also that can be purchased, which I've heard has invaluable info.

Oh, there is nothing worse than scraggly Sheltie feet! It also makes trimming the nail easier if the fur is cut back.

I do between the pads, around the edges, and the top of the feet as well - using a combination of rounded scissors, my ladies intimate shaver and thinning shears.

There are lots of references on how to do feet:

- The Illustrated Guide to Sheltie Grooming
- Sheltie Talk
- Silver Trail Shelties Online Grooming Video
- as well as lots of Youtube videos and other online references.

And our very own, GeeRome who demonstrates line brushing with a furminator, as well as how to get those adorable "cat feet"
