My Sheltie refused to eat Pedigree several months ago, but did OK on various Little Ceasers, then turned her nose up at that selection. I switched to Mighty Dog, which worked for several months, but she burned out on that too. Then, it was fast food plain hamburger and now chicken strips. Any suggestions on how to get her beck to dog food ??
 
For starters I'd recommend that you get Finicky off the supermarket food, LG Dad. It is the vile equivalent of canine fast food, with little redeeming nutritive value. :dead: If you have a natural or quality pet food store in your area, try one of the premium brands such as Wellness, Timberwolf, Solid Gold, Canidae, Innova, Eagle Holistic--there really are many. You won't believe the difference you'll see in your dog. :yes: If she's picky and won't eat you can mix canned with kibble. A little chicken or beef broth with warm water mixed in works too. If you don't have a store that sells holistic food, you can get it online at various websites. There are several threads on this Forum that talk about feeding under Health. Do check them out. One more suggestion too...I don't know how old your girl is, LG, but if it's an eating issue and not the food you're giving her, check with your vet. Sometimes a loss of appetite is due to a health problem, not the food. Just in case, it's a good idea to run her in for a check if she's refusing everything.
 
I totally agree with Ann Please get the dog off of the Supermarket brands !! :eek2: For the dogs health. Do you remember all the recalls , and all the pets that passed away due to our own ignorance of not knowing any better.:cry: I was just as guilty. Now I know read, read those labels. The store brands all contain By-products, corn, etc. :dead: The By-products by the way is anything they can't give to anyone else. Chicken beaks, heads, feathers, etc.
I know feed Wellness. It is a Holistic and all regular human quality foods. They add the vitamins, minerals to keep your dog happy, healthy and energetic. When I swapped my 12 1/2 year old to this food she started to get healthier coat, and her fatty tumors are decreasing in size. You see the vet I had obviously gave bad advice which is now too late to correct. She told me as long as Tasha, was not bothered by the tumors to just let them be. Well now there are so many it's ridiculous. I do believe the food had some play in this. I didn't know any better. I was even feeding this poor quality food to my Sheltie Angel, Jewel. Callie did not eat when I first got her. The fosters used Pedigree and I use Wellness. It was more the new situation as she now lets me know if I take too long getting her breakfast or dinner. I agree that if your dog is not eating any kind of food- it's time for a vet visit. Lack of appetite was my clue that my mix, Danny, was ill- turned out to be advanced cancer but I knew something was wrong when he wouldn't even eat his biscuits/treats :cry:.
Get her checked soon.
 
My ancient Collie is incredibly finicky. We just keep switching from good food to a new brand of good: Pinnacle, Evo, Life's Abundance. We do feed her chicken, tuna, salmon and other good "human" foods. Our vet said with lassie, calories -- any calories -- are the most important thing. So far so good.
 
I would get her checked out and no more fast food, cook hamburger and boil some chicken if that what it takes to get her to eat.
 
Very often vendors of the premium brands will be happy to give you free samples of their foods for your dog to try.
