flea and tick preventative, what to use??

Do NOT use any flea medication that effects the eggs of the flea if you are trying/going to breed the bitch/male. They can affect the fertility of the dog. We've seen it many times in our kennel.

We use Revolution. It's flea, tick, heartworm, and also takes care of mites~ Although before using revolution,I personally did not use flea preventative..cause I feel if you don't have a problem why treat for it.

Revolution is one,and there is also another called Advantage Multi~

comfortis flea med warning

I received this info on it
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM) announced that it has received reports of adverse reactions in dogs receiving the drug Comfortis® (spinosad) concurrently with high, extra-label doses of the drug ivermectin. The clinical signs of these adverse reactions are consistent with ivermectin toxicity.

Comfortis® (spinosad), manufactured by Elanco Animal Health, a division of Eli Lilly and Company, is a monthly oral, chewable tablet used for the prevention and treatment of flea infestations on dogs. Veterinarians who use high, extra-label doses of ivermectin to treat dogs with non-responsive demodectic mange and other conditions should be aware that some dogs have developed signs of ivermectin toxicity when ivermectin is used concurrently with Comfortis® (spinosad).

interesting information.
Of course, if your veterinarian is using high, extra label doses of Ivermectin on your Sheltie, you may just want to have a chat with him or her... - Dr. Mac

I love comfortis!

doesnt matter to me if you cannot use it with Ivermectin... your sheltie should not be on it anyway!

My Vet recommended Sentinel, and it's what I have given Megan for e the past 2 months, what do you all think of that one?

I think I posted somewhere earliar maybe, but we do like Revolution.I have a full year supply of it for both of the pups here.

If it was not available,I would also feel safe using Advantage Multi.Again another 3 in one topical.
We've had good luck,no problems with it. But..prior to using the revolution,I only started because it takes care of heartworms, mites, and also the added feature of it being a flea medication,we do not have a flea problem, never have, hopefully never will. We did not treat for fleas.
I figured why try to fix something that isn't broken to begin with.
Just my two pence~

Sentinel is good. I use interceptor, which is the same as sentinel. the only difference is sentinel has an extra medication for fleas. But since I also use k9 advantix for fleas and mosquitoes, there is no need for the extra flea medication.
