Fluffy/stand up coat - how?

I think they're tipped too low, actually (Noah, I mean). And tipping towards the inside.

He's a pretty boy, though!

Thanks. They dont tip towards the inside at all. They look lower than they are because hes not using his ear because someone besides myself is baiting him.

I think it is wild how shelties can start out one color and then turn out another. Like they can be really dark or light when they are a puppy, and as they get older the color of their fur changes. Noah used to be light, and now he is dark. At least he looked light in the puppy pictures anyway.

I am wondering if the people that use the Vibrant Pets Show Dog formula, generally have dogs that have silkier smoother coats. In regards to the breed standard, that is generally not a desirable trait for a Sheltie. For a Sheltie that is just a pet, a silky coat is nice. Just a thought.

He was actually darker when he was younger. He's becoming lighter as he ages. Or atleast thats he trend the last couple of months.

Thanks for the advice. So its partly due to coat type and partly down to brushing. I shall just have to wait and see what coat type sheltie pup has.

With ears - do the ears have to tip in show dogs? Is it a disqualification if they don't (bear in mind I'm talking about UK/European shows). I'm not particularly bothered about tipping pups ears as I like the pricked look, but just wondered from a showing point of view.

Cheers!:biggrin2:

You can always try Fluffy Puppy for a really fluffy look - and you know you are just going to be dying to try out all those grooming products we all talk about! Over here the American line shelties tend to have fuller coats than the British lines, not sure if it works the same there.

Definately need the tipping ears for showing, but the ear set in the Americas seems to be quite different than here (we use the British standards in Australia). We dont worry about them being so much in front.

Yep, I am definitely keen to get my grooming gear, my white-on-white and the spray conditioners when grooming. Fluffy puppy sounds good too - this dog will get more hair care than I do on myself!

I thought they might need tipped ears for showing. I'm not really bothered about that aspect, more keen on my agility and I could see myself getting very fussy over ears. If they weren't perfect I would keep re-doing them and no puppy would put up with my OCD!
