Flyball pressure

No cards singles against one of our dogs. He just made us let Sadie go down and back before Sca was released after the second 'visit'. Kind of set up like fun runs.
 
So obviously Sca did not run with the team Sunday :lol: But we did hang out. He got lots of lap time and petting. I helped catching balls etc. After lunch the team captain got a sinus headache and was feeling bad so she had me run Indy the Border Collie. Indy is cool but WOW is she crazy at flyball time. Her thing is the laser. That is her 'reward' and as you are walking over she is always looking down to find it, they say she only does that at flyball though. So we played some and then it was time to start. The first time I had some good and some bad and a couple of jump starts. It took me a bit to realize that I was starting in 'race' mode and they were reacting. So the distance was for when the top yellow was lit. I was anticipating it lighting and she was watching it then reacting, thus my jump starts.

The next time out I did better getting about half the starts under a tenth with only one stinker and one double jump :o.

The last one was a freebie with the competition having left. I did OK but was getting tired and had a double fault, the starter was NOT happy. I also had on that showed as a jump of 2/10's and there was NO way. I thought I nailed it and so did the coach then it comes up as something like .-0.219 we were both amazed. I think the lights malfunctioned as that is a ton.

We got back in late and Sca was exhausted. Back to frisbee tonight
 
Oh and we got to meet big Frankie, a nice sable fellow and Lance who was headed to Florida as a rescue. There was a color headed white but we did ge a meeting :(

We wer planning on it but I have to prep the motorhome to loan to my brother and do laundry :( We did get some frisbee in though
 
So you shagged on Sunday and then was shagged when you got home. Always handy to have an extra ball shagger on hand, we always have trouble finding anyone to do it (esp on the faster teams).

That must have been good experience runnings one of the experienced dogs, esp if it was bigger than Sca, altho that's a lot of pressure at a comp. Deska sometimes runs for other team members (he'll do anything for anyone for a treat) and its funny to watch because the bigger dog owners struggle with running a smaller dog.
 
Indy almost runs on autopilot. But yep it was interesting on every front as I learned a lot and got a feel for things. The next one is in Huntsville so no travel but there is no singles :( so Sca cannot run. He might come though. The team wants us there to help though I suspect it is for the apple pie :lol:

Everyone brought stuff for lunch and I said I would bring Pie and Popsicles. Many of them had never had Edy popsicles and loved them :confused2: Also I think they thought I was going to bring one of those nasty store cardboard tasting pies, nope a honey apple pie though it was only an eight since I missed the crust by about 3 minutes, ran out of cinnamon and hhad to use extra nutmeg, even had store bought honey vs some good local dark stuff.

Oh and Sca is official. Go to http://www.u-fli.com/index.php?c=4 then Dog History and he is 6564 (no direct link works) Of course his time is a 'bit' slow since he had to be held until Sadie the Chocolate Lab got back or he would chase her :o If I had to guess he was really a six or so. Sadie's best was a 5.5 and also I had to get him to focus (he was at his worst)
 
Your first seed time. I wouldn't look at the time too much, first couple of comps aren't a good gauge - handler releases usually aren't good because you are playing it safe and the dogs are usually checking the other lane when they are running and turning on the board (so will often fumble the ball). You will definately find his seed time will go down a lot after a while.

I taped our last training session and was amazed at how bad our passes got after a while. Here I was thinking the dogs slow down over the day and that's why our times got slower. But now I think its the handlers that are getting slower.

I had a look at the team seed times too - I am amazed most teams are under 20sec, that's super fast. What happens to the slower dogs, aren''t there any in UFli
