Food RE cats vs dogs, etc.

Yep it only works in the moment. All of these pups know "leave it"..but as your kitty,Oreo also is a nibbler, and food is left out all the time.

Dr.Shelli had a good chuckle when I said Oreos food was up high.It was on the dining room table (which we never ever use)..she said..if it works, nothing wrong with that.
These boys would be fatter than king kong if they had cat food accessable 100% of the day.

hope that Birch didn't give the boys any pointers............

We used to put the cat's dish on the windowsill, but the dog figured out how to get it there. Then we put it on the top of the cat's scratching post, and he figured out how to knock it off and eat the spilled food. So now we have basically sanctioned off the basement as a dog-free zone for our cat. It provides her a nice safe haven when she wants to get away from the dog (he's much more interested in playing all day than she is). Her litterbox is down there, and we feed her down there, too. She is also a grazer... eats a little bit here and there throughout the day... so "leave it" wouldn't work for us, either.

We put the cat food on the counter. The cat sort of nibbles during the day so there's no way we could leave it out and tell the dogs to "leave it"--that command is only temporary !

My varmits eat EVERY bite as soon as it hits the bowl- no nibblin in this house !!!

This is great advice! Fritz' food is up and out of the way of the little dogs (skyla and my inlaws little one) but the labs can reach it easily if they wanted to. Well Skyla likes to eat the big doggies food and since their food is by the back door, she goes past it every time we go outside. I either have to put their food up or rush her past it. This would be a great opportunity to teach her to leave it because I dont want her eating their dog food when she's still on her puppy food. They arent my dogs so I have no say in "meal times" as Skyla has - my MIL keeps food down for her 3 all day and they eat it here and there.

My animals can not be free fed- they would bust before they'd stop eating !!!

The cat enjoys being up high, and so totally looks down on his brothers..nananana~can't touch me!

Sounds like your cat may be related to ours LOL

Hubby was thinking about building a shelf for the cats at a window since they like to look outside anyway and have them eat there...sorta like "their spot" course that will only work so long as Bandit doesn't decide to work on jumps HAHAHA

My cat gets fed in the laundry on top of the diswasher - it's one of the few places I could find that tully can't get to. I used to feed her at the top of a 5ft cat climbing tower until one day I caught Tully going jump, jump, jump and eating the cat food at the top!
