Food

I'm fond of grain-free....

Horizon Legacy is what my guys are on now. But Acana, Now!, Orijen are all good choices too.

Let the flood gates begin!

My girls are doing really well on Nutrisource chicken and rice. There is a link on their site that shows the stores in your area that carry it. If it isn't local to you, I think you can even order it online and have it shipped to you. My girls coats have done a complete turn around since I changed over to it. Here's their website:

We use Orijen.

Isn't it splendid that there are so many good, nutritious foods available now? When I was a kid, it was Purina or scraps!

I use Prairie by Nature's Variety rotating between Salmon and Vension. I have looked into the grain free foods and they look awesome but I worry about the higher protein levels. I lost a dog to kidney disease ( she was 15 but still) and 40% protein makes me nervous.

I was using Wysong Synorgon for Maggie and like it but am switching her over to Wellness. I love Wysong and the only reason for the switch is I have to travel to get it or order it. I think Wellness makes a good product.

I agree with you about the protein. Two of mine have borderline kidney levels so we watch that and my vet believes high protein foods can contribute to it. There's a food Barb mentioned called Now! from Canada, now sold in the states, that is grain free and not high protein. I'm using it for one of mine. I also like Eagle Pack Holistic and Innova. Any of the good premium foods that your dog likes are good. Just check the ingredients list and make sure it doesn't contain by-products or other junk.

Id prefer to feed my dogs a higher quality natural or holistic food. however after years of skin, coat, issues with Ruckus on the holistic foods (orjien, taste of the wild, etc and even raw) I decided to get a bag of Iams healthy naturals. I am very very glad I did. Everything about Ruckus's skin and coat have improved. he used to keep loose stool and vomit regularly. but since switching to Iams that is a thing of the past.
I think every dog is different. From what I have read, most people that used Iams complained of gas, loose stool, and itching in their dogs. and it was the holistic foods that did that to mine, and Iams seemed to have solved it.

I am by no means recommending Iams to you. I just wanted to let you know that every dog is different.
