Found Sheltie: Tiffin, Ohio

Oh Ugh.....

It does sound like she has been neglected, then  I was hoping that was not the case.....

That is a tough situation to be in.....how do you give a dog back to that kind of situation :confused2:

Please keep us posted.

You know you never know the situation until you contact the owners. The coat could be from being on the run. Look at Ruffles. Had someone found her they would have thought she had been neglected too. Obviously she hadn't been .
Several years ago, my friend Rachel placed one her cats, a Maine Coon Mix, with a friend of a friend because her other 3 cats(siamese) were beating her up daily. The cat had been placed almost 3 yrs. One day when Rachel was on vacaction, the local Humane Society called the clinic(she worked with me at the time) looking for her. The cat had been turned in the overnight drop. They scanned for microchip and her info came up. They said if she didn't claim the cat in 2 days she was going to be put down as she was is bad shape. Rachel was horrified. Several calls and 3 party conversions later, I got the cat. She was overweight, matted all over her body including burrs and sticks, had a terrible skin infection around her rear had a bladder infection and other misc wounds. Turns out the family who had her threw her outside because she was peeing all over the house and they didn't want to deal with it. She hadn't been seen for several weeks. So someone must have found her and taken her to the shelter. Rachel nursed her back to health and she spend the last 5 yrs of her life until she passed at 14 (seperated from the siamese) living the life of Riley..

I have been playing phone tag with the owners. I had a message from the owner that she has been missing for over a week. He is supposed to get back to me to arrange a pick up time. I do understand the mats could be from being missing, but those teeth or nail didnt happen in a week! I could only get her to eat food that was softened in chicken broth. She will be going back to them fairly mat free. I couldnt get them all out without cutting her fur.

You have a great opportunity to do some educating!!!

That's a little unsettling and it seems like it'd take a long time for her to get into such bad shape. Hope everything goes well and they take better care of her. Poor thing. Kudos for cleaning her up!

Her name is Sadie and she is now back home! They had 2 little kids that were so excited to see her. I talked to him about how bad she was matted he said she is going to the groomers tomorrow

That is great. I am happy to hear that she has a good home. They were probably worried sick, especially since she was missing for so long.

Thanks for taking her in and getting her cleaned up a little.

I bet she was happy to see her kids also. It would be nice if her lost time resulted in better grooming but I am sure her two two legged sheep were important to her also.
